The only answer I have is they feel Trump personifies their ideals, which is really sad. Trump has no ideals, no morals, no vision, no plan -- he doesn't even want to govern; he's just grifting and monetizing his own brand. i believe you answered your own question.

He's basically a trail mix of random aggrieved nonsense. 2016 was about Mexicans and "Deep state". 2020 was Antifa and BLM. 2024 is trans people and "keep me out of jail." There hasn't been an actual tangible idea since that stupid wall. And these people don't care. You're forgetting about his crowning (only?) policy proposal for 2024: 10 Communist Ghost Cities. Think how great America could be if we had 10 strategically placed, state-planned cities sitting empty save for the roaming packs of wild dogs and the slow creep of mother nature taking back what once was hers.

Here response when a follower asked about it yeah people have all kinds of intrusive thoughts all the time. that's pretty normal. what's not normal is both having an intrusive thought that ought to immediate disgust you, such as for example sexualizing your freaking daughter, and then deciding it's something you should share with a bunch of other guys. then play off like it's normal. like holy crap.

The grand poobah of narcissists says such things because it reflects positively on him. I'm not sure it is sexualizing or saying "see, my progeny -- the product of ME -- is SEXY!" You don't see him bragging about his other ugly and dimwitted children. All people around him are a reflection of him. If the reflection looks good, he repeats if over and over and if not, he attacks it from a victim perspective. Ultimately, everyone fails to feed his narcissistic need and he turns on them because they aren't doing so.

Thanks -- I think a good portion of this is accurate. The polarization that drives the left and right further apart is certainly part of the root cause of Trumpism. I get quite frustrated with the way the world is going but as I live into my late 50s now, I understand the saying "the world belongs to the young". Things are so much different now than when I was a teenager and young adult, and it's hard to say they've changed for the better on balance. Technology has made the world much more convenient and transparent, but this culture we live in of everybody wanting to be offended and "you need to pay for the sins of your ancestors" as Harris references, I'm very glad I'm not faced with having to grow up in this present world.

I think it is a good basic explanation of how he basically attracts the 25% of knuckleheads from the Repub side by appealing to their base level of human imperfection (and yeah, pure filth) and exonerating them for all of their faults. However, I'm not sure about the rest of the Repubs. Some are just always going to vote against the other side and I suspect many are just afraid to stand against the loud mouthed idiots but it is perplexing to see his ratings so high among the overall party. A factor of the pure division and polarization in society I suppose just as you say.
June 29, 20232 yr "This won’t go well for Trump”: Experts say Giuliani "trying to avoid indictment” by cutting a deal Former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani was interviewed by special counsel Jack Smith's team last week as part of its investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election, sources told CNN and The New York Times. The "voluntary interview, which took place under what is known as a proffer agreement," comes as the special counsel probe has ramped up in recent weeks, according to the Times. Sources told the outlet that the interview "touched on some of the most important aspects" of the probe into the ways that former President Donald Trump tried to overturn his loss. A proffer agreement is an understanding between prosecutors and subjects of a criminal investigation that can precede a formal cooperation agreement, the report noted. Subjects agree to provide information to the government in exchange for avoiding potential charges or to avoid testifying under a subpoena before a grand jury. In exchange, prosecutors agree not to use their statements against them in criminal proceedings unless they lied.
