It still seems obvious to me the only sane thing to do is drop out and throw your endorsement behind an electable candidate who promises you a pardon in exchange. September 1, 20232 yr Polling's irrelevant with Trump. He has a core group that's rabid but hasn't grown a bit over the years. Only thing to look at with him is past results. Dragged down the party in '18, got his ass handed to him in '20, absolutely embarrassed the party in '22. He's cooked politically, his cultists just won't recognize it. Either way, the whole things a political gift to the Dems. He's either the nominee from prison or he's the nominee who's in and out of court dates and awaiting a conviction or the Republicans take him out at the convention and the cultists go nuts. In any of those scenarios, the Republicans lose. Only survivable scenario for the right is that Trump goes to prison before the meat of the primaries and they pick someone else. They should be praying that the GA case starts in October, but that seems pretty unlikely.

The Georgia indictment is a racketeering case, which is prosecuted based on charges of a coordinated effort to commit a crime. Trump can't overtly fund these co-defendants because nothing will demonstrate coordination to a jury more than paying all their legal bills. So, They have to take out these right-wing 'GoFundMe' type pages and collect donations from idiots that way. The downside for Trump is, since he's not helping any of the other 18 with their mounting legal bills, it's going to be impossible to control their testimony at trial. I've been hearing some pundits predict quite a few of these defendants will plead guilty -- Georgia has a first offenders program where the prosecutor can recommend a suspended sentence after conviction if it can be demonstrated the defendant will not commit any future crimes in the state. If I was representing some of the smaller potatoes in this trial, that's what I would recommend to them. Speak to the DA about telling the whole truth, and try to get the conviction suspended afterward. Trump, Giuliani, Meadows, Eastman, Clark, and Powell should get no leniency from the court system. Some of the lower level conspirators will be fascinating to watch.
