Most voters are too stupid to understand or care about any of this. And the ones who do understand it are already anti-Trump.

To defeat Trump you have to go at him head on. Every ad should call Trump an idiot. Point out that no one who worked in his administration is endorsing him, that they all call him a moron behind his back. Point out that he never built the wall, or accomplished much of anything. But mostly -- just have a never ending parade of people who worked for him, know him, etc. call him a complete moron. Over and over again. Focus on a simple message -- Trump is an idiot. It helps that it happens to be true.

I actually (surprisingly) agree with Dr Philly on this one.  Not that they shouldn't go after Trump for being a moron who's universally hated by his former administration and who failed at everything as President, etc., but they need to go after the full scale ideological movement he wants to implement just as much if not more.

Republicans have always fallen back on a purely ideological message against the left and they've been wildly successful doing it.  They've been less successful during the Trump years because Trump's own disastrous bullsheet and general lack of focus has led to the Republican party constantly chasing it's tail, but for decades the right could say "no matter what you think about me personally or what policies I support, I'm not trying to reshape America into something that you don't recognize".

Now that the Republicans have completed their transformation from a tradition conservative party to the party of radical fascism, it's incredibly easy for Democrats to make the exact same argument the Republicans used to make, that Trump and the Republican Party are anti-American radicals that want to destroy this country   And Project 2025 is a very clearly outlined expression of that ideological agenda.  It's basically the right wing equivalent of the Green New Deal: a radical ideological proposal that the Dems can easily run against.  It should absolutely be front and center in this race and I've been seeing it talked about more and more so I'm guessing some groups on the left have gotten the memo.

I disagree.  The policy goals in this platform are easy to understand and ones that the average moderate voter will not resonate with.  A perfect opportunity to show something tangible that will affect them rather than only go with the "Trump is an idiot" message.  A nice counter to the TDS argument.

Having said that, I 100% agree with the full on bashing of the character of Trump.  Something we've agreed on for almost 10 years now.

Not sure of this tactic.   While Trump did have a revolving door of an administration, quite a few are still loyal and are writers of Project 2025.

Notable authors of the project's Mandate for Leadership include many officials and advisors from the Trump administration, including Jonathan Berry, Ben Carson, Ken Cuccinelli, Rick Dearborn, Thomas Gilman, Mandy Gunasekara, Gene Hamilton, Christopher Miller, Bernard McNamee, Stephen Moore, Mora Namdar, Peter Navarro, William Perry Pendley, Diana Furchtgott-Roth, Kiron Skinner, Roger Severino, Hans von Spakovsky, Brooks Tucker, Russell Vought, and Paul Winfree.

The way you attract right-of-center voters is very different from the way you attract left-of-center voters.

Anyone anywhere near the middle is swayed by a message that one side wants to radically reshape the country.  The middle values stability because they're sane and tend to have the most to lose.

American voters, and Trump voters in particular, are complete idiots that are immune to facts. Half the country thinks the stock market is crashing, unemployment is at record highs and we are in a recession. You're not winning an election by arguing the nuances of limited government. Also, stupid people are generally OK with an authoritarian.

Call him stupid every minute of every day. Challenge him to an IQ test. To a fitness test. They like him BECAUSE they view him as a strongman. Reveal him to be the pus-y we all know he is.

No one's winning over Trump voters period.  They're in a cult who still thinks he won the last election that every sane person knows he lost.

The people that actually matter electorally don't care about either of the candidates in the end.  They only care about themselves.  Which is why "one side wants to turn the country into a fascist sheethole that doesn't resemble America" is a better message than "this guy's an idiot".

Oh no, poor babies.

This sounds kinda like when Trump was blamed for killing everyone with a once-in-a-generation, totally unavoidable pandemic and lost an election because of it.

Whoops, a few years later and that pandemic is still killing people and Trump was actually right about its origin and blaming China.

Sorry Bidenflation is screwing his approval ratings.

A lot of Trump voters are just tired of seeing our country run by a bunch of leftwing lunatics using Bidens carcass as a sock puppet.

In this case, the trick is to win a slice of swing voter moderates.  Trump voters aren't going anywhere.  Many of those moderate voters do have half a brain and they already dislike or even hate Trump.

Yes, call him stupid in every communication but include the anti policy direction in the message in some of the material.

He was always going to lose. He barely beat Hillary with the entire Russian government's cyber division behind him. Republicans have lost every major race after 2016. What will be the excuse when he loses this time?

Wrong.  If not for the daily death tracker and zombie apocalypse propaganda, America wouldn't have elected an Obama coat tail riding moron career politician with no real accomplishments.

Based on many of Trump's numbers, throughout history the incumbent almost always got re-elected.  The difference was the horrible DNC and their media running a full on campaign of mass hysteria and destroying the entire global economy, all because Orange Man Bad.

But phew thankfully the adults are back in charge and we don't have issues domestically and all over the world.  Those mean tweets were worth it all.

"mean tweets" yeah, that was the problem

3M jobs lost

vs

16M jobs gained

"Worst President since Hoover" is probably the most generous way you could frame Trump's tenure

You missed the entire "let's destroy the entire global economy because Orange Man Bad" part of my post as usual.

That's the only thing that permits your disingenuous jobs stats.

Weird, that massive swing right at the tail end of 2019 must have been the result of some bad policy decisions.  Oh wait, nope, it was the daily death tracker that shut down our entire economy for the unavoidable pandemic for which you blamed (and still probably blame) Trump.

Again with this Democrats shut down the global economy, when 1. we were one of the latter countries to shut down and 2. Trump was in power.  It wasn't that long ago, we all lived through it, why try to sneak this huge blatant lie through at every turn?

  Riiiight.

And if it weren't for the liberal Washington Post Nixon would've gone down as a successful President.

And if it weren't for greedy Wall Street Herbert Hoover wouldn't have such a bad rap.

Suck it up, bish.  They're all graded on their entire term.  Trump sheet the bed on Covid across the board.  His term was an abject failure.  3M jobs lost.  Failure on healthcare.  Failure on infrastructure. 8T to the national debt.  Global embarrassment.  No one outside the cult wants to go back to that sheet.

Living in MD for so long I knew the story of Carson but had no idea about his political views until he decided to get into politics. It was a huge surprise

But that's just it, they like him because he's just as stupid as they are. They don't see his incompetence as a danger, it's actually relatable and endearing to them. A lot of morons are drawn to him precisely because he doesn't know what the nuclear triad is. "He tells it like it is" which is just another way of saying "this guy talks the way I would talk if I were president."

So ultimately, I think hitting him on his lack of intellect can only go so far before you get diminishing returns. I think the better and broader approach is to expose him as a fraud, prove that he's NOT just like the average American. He's a sleezeball who cheated his way to the top with tens of millions of daddy's money and he's only in this for himself.  THat's why he lied about the election because he wanted to illegally remain in power. That's why he's still telling the same lie 4 years laters, because he wants people to hand over their money to him. The average voter may be incredibly stupid, but by and large, they don't like being swindled by a selfish, out-of-touch conman pretending to be something he's not. Hammer him on the grifting, cheating, and selfishness, because that's something almost anyone can understand, no matter how dumb they are.

At this point, they can't admit they were swindled. They are all in too deep to come to that realization. Trump's appeal is that they view him as a strongman. They think he "tells it like it is" and acts how they would act if they were rich -- coarse, eating McDonald's and bullying people around. He's famous for firing people on a weekly basis.

You have to expose that he is in fact weak, a whiny little B that can't take it. Calling him stupid will make him lash out, and that will help expose his insanity. But go further -- schedule an IQ test, hire a proctor and dare him to show up. During the 2016 primaries he kept ranting about his IQ and how he would wipe the floor with everyone...Cruz right on stage should have said name the time and place. In the debates Trump is going to claim Biden is stupid and has dementia -- Biden's response should be I booked a test center for this Saturday, so show up and prove it fat boy. Trump will keep claiming Biden is physically unfit to handle the job -- challenge him a one mile walk/run, or a Peloton ride. Return fire and make him back down and reveal himself to be a wimp. That's how you beat him.

They love Trump because they think he is a strongman. You have to reveal that he is in fact the exact opposite.

To get the Trump foaming MAGA crowd to sour on him yeah.  To get enough swing voters from the middle to ensure Trump loses is a different game.

I feel like you're giving these people waaay too much credit.  No one could ever reveal anything negative about Trump to the people in his cult.  Trump's their entire identity.  It truly doesn't matter what he does.  They'll never, ever sour on him.  He could sit in a cuck chair and watch Biden F Melania during the debate and they'd say he won it.

Thankfully, the election doesn't come down to who they vote for.
