they're still counting but cheeto will wind up winning the popular vote by 1-2% & most likely less than what hillary won it by in 2016. he crushed it with the electoral votes but this wasn't some kind of landslide election. 

2008 was the last time someone won by more than 5% (obama over mccain by 7%) & 1984 was the last 10%+ landslide when reagan crushed mondale by 18%.

Scott Bessent is a very smart guy who knows finance and macro investing extremely well. He's an excellent choice for Treasury Secretary.

I was in NEPA from late spring to basically two days before the election.  I can tell you that every GD ad was "Harris/Casey is for they/them".  They Fn hammered it.

So I can tell you that from seeing the ads and talking to people in PA it was basically "ish is so expensive" and "why should I pay for someone to have their D lopped off?"

I get the impression that most Trump voters knew that he is a huge POS, because nothing they actually said was about how great he was, it was justifying things based on their economic situation.

A lot of "I mean, I don't like him, but my 401k sure did", "every politician is a narcissist, anyway", and my personal favorite "its not a popularity contest, look at his policies."  The latter was my favorite because I could just ask "what policies?" and shut that point down immediately.

I usually kept my mouth shut, but when somebody asked me a question, I didn't hold back.  People were dumbfounded when they asked me if I thought that Putin would have invaded if Trump was president and I told them yes and explained the reasons why Putin invaded when he did and that who was president was immaterial. 

They were going to vote for who they were going to vote for, and they were voting in their own self interest, or at least what they thought their own self interest was. 

 

It all comes down to this: average people aren't going to be able to comprehend anything beyond first order effects, and even then, their thought of the first order effect is their perception of what that will be based on their vibes only.  Because, lets face it, they have no capabilities for analysis or understanding cause and effect.
