I thought you'd meet the >30 BMI requirement.

We're talking about Alabama here.  > 30 BMI is runway model thin.

I’ve gained some weight during the pandemic.  But didn’t think I met the BMI eligibility.  I mean, sure I gained a few pounds, but I don’t really look like I did.
So last week said oh what the heck let’s check the ol BMI......it’s 30 😞 😞 😞

In NJ, people with BMI over 25 are eligible.
Soooo I’m getting my first dose tomorrow.

Happy you are getting the vaccine, but this is one of the most insulting criteria yet. So people who are overweight and irresponsible get access over those who take care of themselves. Just like giving more welfare checks to people who are irresponsible and have more kids when they can't afford the ones they have.

And then we wonder why society is filled with irresponsible people...gee, maybe stop rewarding it.

That's courageous for you to admit right here on the EMB. Well done. I read that the average person has gained like 30-40lbs. I thought that was crazy, I've found I have had more time to work out since the pandemic. I guess it's the sitting around and eating for most people.

Look, it's simple. We gave them a window for priority access. It's like letting the bad parents that can't control their children board a plane first -- it's ridiculous, but we allow it. But now people seem to be advocating that since some of them didn't take advantage of it, we should hold back rolling this out to everyone until every old, sick person who can't get off their arse to learn the internet gets a shot. Well, to hell with that. If you didn't pre-board when you had the chance, you and your kids (and grandma) can wait for your group number. We have the supply and it's past time to allow everyone who wants a shot to get one.

You don't inconvenience 80% of people because people in the priority group can't get off their arse. You give them a window for priority access, and then you open it up after a reasonable amount of time. That amount of time has passed.

I mean, you do understand why some of us would recoil at the thought of "old people who aren't proficient with navigating the internet deserve to die" right?

Just as a test I just went through all of the Walmarts within 40 miles of me and they are currently out of the vaccine.

Hi, I just checked my BMI and I’m here to get the vaccine

Same scenario here, maybe California has passed the point where supply has far outstripped demand for the currently eligible groups but it's not quite the case here.

I heard about some people I know getting the vaccine and I was surprised because I didn't think they were in group 1A. Well, apparently they're not and just lied. I refuse to do that but was wondering what the general feel is here and if anyone has actually lied to get a vaccine (for example, saying you're a smoker when you're not).

What's weird about this is. At the beginning of March I called my Docs office and asked to be put on the list. Within an hour they called and told me where to be the following Saturday. No lie was required.

oh and yes it's wrong to lie about it

It's because those people are more likely to end up overtaxing the hospital not because they're being rewarded. It's to ultimately help the hospital workers and you know this.

I don't know a single eligible person who wanted a vaccine that didn't get one by now. It just takes effort and diligence. If people can't take even that modicum of responsibility, then I have zero sympathy for them.

that's because you don't live in bucks county, which is a mess. my MIL who is 76yrs old with underlying conditions was on countless lists, from the county to local pharmacies.

she just got her appointment yesterday, for 4/20.

as a side note, i'll be medicating in a different way that same day.

Exactly. While perfectly healthy people already got the vaccine because they're claiming to be smokers.

Solution -- don't let smokers get the vaccine. You are rewarding bad behavior.

They are being rewarded for being irresponsible. Same as allowing smokers access. That's why people are done with this BS. Everyone can understand prioritizing the elderly and those born with medical issues, cancer survivors, etc. (I am in one of those groups). But when you start rewarding people for making poor life choices...you get more people making poor life choices.

ICU bed capacity is like 30% in CA at this point, so enough with the overwhelming the system argument. If you're a fat smoker who doesn't take proper precautions -- you suffer the consequences of your bad decisions.

Hey man, I'm not one to defend fat smokers. Fact of the matter is, they are in group 1A and those are the people who qualify.

I wanted people to vote honestly and some people might not want to say it's fine publicly.

When COVID hit, one of our clients issued everyone laptops with a VPN client.

The founder, in his late 80s, was given his first laptop.

He had trouble connecting and since I knew him, I took the ticket to work it.

HOLY @#)#%)&%&

"Let's power it on and log in." He takes the phone down to the basement. When the login screen comes up he says, "I better go get my glasses."

It takes ten minutes for him to return with glasses and his wife.

He logs in and I try to get him to click the VPN connection icon on his desktop. Who knows what he is clicking but a help window pops up. He closes it and his wife starts in on him, "Of course not. WHY WOULD YOU CLICK HELP?"

Two hours. so he could login to Windows.

Click an icon to connect the VPN to the office.

Click a second icon to remote control his office PC, because he didn't like the laptop keyboard.

I did not want to mention that he was still using the laptop keyboard.
