Off the top of my head, I don't remember why we didn't open immediately for posting (I'll have to go to the archive of the old board and see if I said the reason), but I do recall being urged be the one to to make the first post... I hadn't even thought about that or what to say so I just winged it lol. It wasn't until a few weeks later that I came across the news story that was done about the old board closing, which mentioned our efforts to start this new board, I still have to chuckle at the 'TATERGEDDON' thread (title) being shown on TV lol. It's been both a very fast year, and at the same time, a long year. What a bold faced lie for the reason they closed it. A drop in fan activity? They BLAMED US instead of how cheap and uncaring they are! Lurie became a real life Scrooge. Now you see why the dysfunction of this org starts at the very top. Lurie turned into a total a-hole over the years. He didn't mellow with age, or get better like vintage wine. No, he grew bitter and became an ass_hole. A real life Scrooge- did Lurie see how that movie could have ended if Scrooge stayed the selfish **** he was? I guess not. It won't end well for him. F this org.

I'm not sure. I was remembering 8 pm as well, but it does look like around 8:30 we went live. The only thing I do remember is that we had it set up, the original plan was to make it live several weeks later and you said "what the heck, lets open it up". That ended up being for the best because it gave us more overlap and a stress test with the upcoming draft.

Everything was basically done, so waiting for the old board to shut down didn't seem necessary and like you said, having it live for the draft was definitely helpful in seeing what was needed, hosting wise. Draft night 1 was crazy, but I missed most of it being on the phone with GoDaddy lol.

Looking at how many posts we currently have, we're closing in on 500,000, so going by that, a year from now we should be closing in on 1 Million. We're averaging around 1,340 posts per day. So if that average holds, slightly over 2 years to hit a million posts... not too shabby.

April 21, 20214 yr i'd like to know if there had been any suspensions yet. i'm asking for an attorney friend.

I think that was kind of because some people wanted to race for highest member number. you also had a test message board setup for a while I remember posting in that.

Yeah, if I recall right, the test board was just generic with no Eagles theming. That was a free thing that Invision set up and after a week or 14 days or something like that, it gets deleted. So we can't even go find it to see what was said. I definitely posted the exact time for the board to open so that everyone would have advance notice and could have an equal chance at a low member number. I actually pondered giving a full 24 hours notice, but I was too impatient to get things going. Like a kid at midnight, Christmas Eve... I couldn't wait lol and that kind of goes along with what @Moderator12 said about the original plan being to open it closer to the old EMB closing but I said "What the heck are we waiting for, let's do it now..." or words to that effect lol But I definitely didn't want to just open it and spring it on everyone without any notice. I wanted there to be a set time so people could be ready to jump on those single digit member numbers lol... of which, I own two (member numbers 1 and 4) but I only post with this one (member number 4). Mod 12 is member #2, member number 3 was used by the man that did the Eagles theme for us, and I think I deleted his account after he was finished, thinking that doing that would free up that member number... and it didn't. 53 minutes ago, NOTW said: I grabbed a screen shot of the very last post before the old EMB died. I did capture my final post though, I think I either archived it or I screen shot it. 22 minutes ago, Talonblood said: I am glad the board is thriving. The Eagles underestimate the power of true fans. Yeah, I knew it would thrive. I knew that a lot of old members likely wouldn't come over, but I also knew that a lot would. I was thinking about all of these events late last night and I had (have) a real pride in this community and what we accomplished in a fairly short period of time between Dave's announcement and our opening (5 days after the announcement). Over $3,000 was raised The software and its license was purchased The URL and hosting accounts were purchased The board was installed A skinning expert was hired and the skin was duplicated/completed All of the 'behind the scenes' settings were set up to be identical to the old EMB Then we opened registrations and had almost 900 registrations in less than a week. Everything went so seamlessly in terms of look, feel and operation that over the past year, at least a few old EMBers that didn't know about what happened, found us via Google and thought this was the old EMB and that somehow their old account had just been deleted or deactivated and wanted to know why. It wasn't until it was explained to them that this was an entirely new EMB that they understood lol.
April 22, 20214 yr Good lord I hate how fast life goes by. A year already??!!??!!?? I have been on EMBs since around 2001 or so. Hopefully there are a lot more years in the future. Thanks Va.

When we first opened it, I manually checked and approved a page of registrations, refreshed and two new pages would pop up The next few days after it I was doing my best to check every 15 minutes or so (sometimes life got in the way and it would be every hour), and sure enough we would have a bunch of registrations to approve. I think it only took 2 or 3 days to get to 800 members. 12 hours ago, VaBeach_Eagle said: Everything went so seamlessly in terms of look, feel and operation that over the past year, at least a few old EMBers that didn't know about what happened, found us via Google and thought this was the old EMB and that somehow their old account had just been deleted or deactivated and wanted to know why. I just paid for the upcoming year a few days ago, which leaves us with a bit over $800 left from the GoFundMe. So we have a bit of time before we'll need to add funds for next year (unless we need to upgrade again, which I wouldn't expect unless we go on a Super Bowl run and game day visitors increase tenfold). That said, the original GoFundMe looks like it's still active. So anyone can donate there at anytime, but we're not in a position of need at the immediate moment.

Even though I moved over here and stayed away from the original board, I just wanted to have one last dance with the old girl. Then 30 minutes later my power went out. No internet. Must have also took out the local cell tower because no internet on my phone either. By the time it came back the board was no more.

Must have also took out the local cell tower because no internet on my phone either. By the time it came back the board was no more. Where I live, power used to go out if it even thought about having a little wind or rain. Losing power 4 or 5 times in the summer wasn't out of the question. It's gotten better over the past 25 or 30 years, though. Losing power once or twice in the summer can be expected. As for cell reception, it's always been horrible and always will be horrible because the Navy owns the air rights and won't allow cell new towers to be put up. But the positive of that is that they also won't allow new housing developments, stores or any other structures to be built up. So today, this area is exactly how it was 30 years ago, and probably even 50 years ago when the neighborhood that I live in was built. Whenever there's a big game for the Eagles, I'm always afraid that power will go out and I won't be able to watch. I half expected it during Super Bowl LII lol. If a standby generator wouldn't cost me $15,000 to $20,000, I'd get one. But that's a hefty price to pay when the power doesn't go out as often as it used to. But I do have a portable, 5,000 watt generator for whenever we have a hurricane or other storm that causes extended outages. Hurricane Isabel (September 2003) knocked it out for about a week.
April 22, 20214 yr Schmoopie has been begging me to get a generator. We had multiple power outages in May, one lasting 3 days. That was an "I told you so" month.

They can be a pain in the neck to drag out and run extension cords, but that's outweighed by the ability to run a portable AC or the TV when it goes out for an extended period like that. I think just about every house in my neighborhood has one, except for people who've recently moved in and haven't learned yet. I've thought about having a transfer switch installed. That's where you can hook a portable generator up to your breaker box and power a series of breakers. It wouldn't be enough to power an entire house, but maybe a single room or a single room plus a fridge and freezer and maybe more importantly, a well pump. I'm on well water and when the power goes out, there's no water because the pump requires power.
