The Eagles haven't handed out #12 to any player since Randall left the team, but the number hasn't been retired yet either.  The man was an electrifying revolutionary force in the game who was breathtaking to watch and who largely hasn't been duplicated since in many respects.  He was an exciting constant here for 10 years and helped stoke up interest in the Eagles to a rabid level.  To top it off, he was a fun guy and a likable guy.

In my book - time to retire # 12 officially.  Randall deserves this.

Should Eagles Allow Smith To Wear Cunningham's Number 12 Jersey? - GCOBB.COM

Agreed, at this point it's clear no player will be allowed to wear #12 anyways, so why not celebrate it while Randall is still alive and can enjoy the fanfare.

Yeah, that's just the right thing to do. Randall is legendary around here, so hang that jersey for all to see, and do NOT dare let another player wear it. They will get booed out of Philly if they try to wear #12, so I don't think a player would be stupid enough to piss and moan for it- but you never know.

Randall does have say on wether or not someone can wear his number and he loves that honor.

Just make sure they arent trading for Aaron Rodgers in the next couple years first.

He might want #12.

IIRC Steve Smith (Giants) wanted it, even asked Randall for permission who said yes, but was vetoed by Lurie.

False, Randall said " he wouldn't give up his # for a million dollars" lurie said " it is up to Randall on if he wants someone else wants to wear his number or not.

Don't retire it. Allow Randall to appoint it to someone like the cowpies do with 88 and LSU does with 7

I don't know, I'm pretty much against retiring numbers ... I think there are other ways to honor a player.  Eventually you are going to be limited with the amount of numbers available.

Same. Ring of honor or wall of fame type things are fine with me. Maybe a player who was arguably the best ever at their position, and a humanitarian, but nothing less.

I think we are already seeing that with certain positions now allowed to wear 1-49. Slay is changing to 2 I think

Yes he is.  Going to be weird seeing some numbers playing certain positions this year.

Randall even said he likes that they leave it up to him and just being in a the ring of honor is a great accomplishment for him

I stand corrected.

Tom Brady will wear it in a few years when he comes here 🙂

I like Randall, but retiring his number is probably not gonna happen. He is not a HOFer. Nor did he win SuperBowl.

No Eagles QBs in HOF and no jerseys retired.

Maybe Jalen Hurts will be the one.

Yes, old grandpappy Randall is 58 now, in the twilight of his years...  Hopefully he can hang on for a few more birthdays...

Jeesh. Kids!

McNabb's number is retired despite not being in the HOF.

The life expectancy of NFL players is less than 60 years old, so yeah, hopefully he can hang on for more birthdays.

I hear ya. I would imagine a player who pushed so hard to get it, then actually got it and came out onto the field wearing it, would incur the fans wrath immediately. To be hated by a fan base over something like that seems like a dumb move to me.

Where is the info about Randall saying yes to that? I would imagine a player who pushed so hard to get it, then actually got it and came out onto the field wearing it, would incur the fans wrath immediately. To be hated by a fan base over something like that seems like a dumb move to me.

100% agree. McNabb's number should be retired as the best QB in franchise history. While Randall was the QB when I first started watching, he doesn't deserve it (1 playoff win). It's hard to argue for #12 before #7, IMO - Jaws took us to a Super Bowl at least.

He’s the reason this kid from Ohio fell in love with the Eagles. Retire #12.

It was attitude.  Randall never had the coaching that DMac had.  If DMac had Buddy Ryan and Rich Kotite as his head coaches, he would not have won a single playoff game.  Randall also wasn't the prima donna that DMac was.

And for the guy that said Randall was not a winner, Eagles were 63-43-1 in games he started.
