I'm not sure I would call some of those under the radar.

Two under the radar movies that come to mind

25th hour

Warrior (2011)

25th hour is my go to whenever a friend or family member invites themselves to my house and says, "I’ve seen everything. Give me something underrated.”  I friggin love that movie.

Spoiler

The scene where he goes off in the mirror and ultimately blames himself might be one of my favorite scenes in history.  Also,

Was thinking a little more about this.

Spoiler

There are a lot of things to like in the movie, but the fight scenes are some of the best I have ever seen in a boxing\mma movie.  Yes, they got a lot of real MMA fighters and wrestlers to play those parts but Joel Edgerton REALLY held his own.  I've seen the movie probably 2 dozen times now and this scene never gets old:

The Gentlemen series was better than The Gentlemen movie. IMHO.

Just for the record.... I did NOT get hammered last night and watch this movie again at 2 am while schmoopie was sleeping

A Minecraft Movie.

Took my son & his friend, big fans of the game. I had a little knowledge of the game but not much.

I thought it was awful & cringe, very over Jack Black's schtick. The cast was terrible, a lot of unnecessary stuff in the human world.

But, the boys liked it, thought the Black/Momoa bromance was funny, and the actual Minecraft stuff was true to the game. I'm glad they liked it.

Hope you're recovering well.

I've been rewatching some old Clint Eastwood westerns. A Fistful of Dollars, Pale Rider, High Plains Drifter, Unforgiven are my favorites.

If you liked Apocalypto, and like the Predator movies try Prey on Hulu, a Predator prequel.

During COVID, I went through all the Tarantino movies again.

Amazon Prime has a bunch of old martial arts movies if you're into that.

Vikings tv show on Netflix is really good

A little embarrassed to admit this but we went to see The Minecraft Movie. Both of my daughters told us over a week ago that we had to go see it this weekend. They’ve never been that excited to see a movie before. I think they actually liked it as much as they thought they would. I wouldn’t say I liked it, but I wouldn’t say I disliked either. It got a little long towards the end and I was happy when it was over, but Black and Mamoa were all in and it was pretty amusing to watch with some laugh out loud funny parts. The soundtrack, heavily ‘80’s music, was pretty good too.

Speaking of the ‘80’s, they showed 3 previews before the movie, Karate Kid Legands, Superman and the new Jurassic World. All sequels or remakes of movies from that time period. Seems like we’re now at the point where Gen X is making movies for Gen X and I’m fine with it.

the only thing worse than that godawful Minecraft movie was the 5 minute superman+dog clip they played ahead of it in the IMAX theater.

The Minecraft director was Jared Hess, who also did Nacho Libre with Jack Black, and Napoleon Dynamite. Now it makes sense why the vibe of the humans and human world was the way it was.

The focus should have been a teen boy (target audience) learning to build and create and use the tools of the game, rather than middle aged actors hamming up the screen and other characters that were pointless. The teen boy barely got to do anything, they were too busy focusing on Black and Mamoa.

Agreed, yet video game shows though have somehow been good recently (fall out, witcher, last of us etc). It's weird.

I think there's some sense to it. Video games have more and more turned into multiple hour play throughs. TV shows get the time to dive into backstories, lore, character development etc and explain things to draw in a casual viewer that may not know everything about the game. Movies just have too much to condense into a 90 minute story without it being a watered down shallow version.

Agreed.

A few days after seeing Minecraft, my son realized it wasn't that great, he said there was a lot of the actual game they didn't include. There wasn't much actual building of items or using things.

I loved Police Squad and the original Naked Gun movie.

Not sure how I feel about this.

I thought this was going to be a remake but it’s not. This is a yes from me

Never thought I’d do this but I felt the need to do it. I just saw "Warfare” in IMAX, and it’s the best war movie I’ve ever seen…..and there’s not a close 2nd.
I’m still in the parking lot (but only bc I’m giving out free handies after the show) bc It’s so f’ing good I felt the need to message all of you a-holes to go and see it immediately.  @mikemack8 - it was the first movie where my phists were clenched the entire time, but not in someone’s butthole!

Spoiler

This movie and the way it was done makes Saving Ryan’s Privates look like Miss Rachel.

Plus if he’s getting too rough back there you can just kick the stool out from underneath him.
