Weekly line thread: Eagles -3.5 at Lions

The hook means someone's gonna cover Sunday but as poorly as these two teams are playing you never know.  Hurts and Goff are statistically similar (although Hurts has more TDs and fewer INTs); Sanders will be out for the Eagles so they'll have to figure out what they're going to do at RB.  Lane came out with an ankle so Mailata slid back to RT and Dillard came in and has acquitted himself fairly well on the left side.  Hopefully Lane will be good to go Sunday.

Line: Eagles-3.5/Lions
Total: 47.5
ML: Eagles -$175/Lions +$150

I suspect the Eagles will win this game, but if the Lions win, there are lots of silver linings:

- Fair chance we get two really high picks.

- Misery on TATE.

I'd actually rather Lane was out Sunday, the line solidified a bit after he went out against the Raiders, honestly given what we've got to pay him going forward, the best thing for Lane and the team would be shoving him on full IR and giving him half a year to heal up properly to see if he can get back to what he was.

Regards the book, the Lions have a worse defense than we do in terms of yards and points, but they have more sacks and managed to hold the Ravens below 20pts with 1TD in Detroit so on their day they aren't mugs, and there's the increasing weekly risk that a team on a long skid suddenly pulls that first win out their ass.

I think we have the talent to win but the game plan the last 2 weeks has been pretty much impossible to see, just putting players out there and calling plays at random to see what sticks. I'd just about take us to cover, but not with any great confidence.

Favourites on the road? To a team who may not be good but are at least competitive.

Yeah if I was betting I'd take the Lions at home with points. In a heartbeat.

This will be close I think. But aside from the result, I want to see the following:

1) The D actually taking some risks and not allowing teams just to run and exploit the soft zone coverage all day. If they give up a long TD or so fair enough, but let's at least put some pressure on Goff.

2) Although half the message board wants to give up on Hurts already, I don't. I'm not saying he is the guy, because he may well not be, but they need to give him a chance. That means the D not giving up long slow touchdowns every drive and the Eagles making sure they have a balanced game plan.

3) I want to see Hurts get into a rhythm, be given more time in the pocket and deliver some accurate passes.

Misery on TATE is a silver lining for you?

I think we see some changes to the game plan on both sides of the ball.  Gannon has been called out a few times by Sirianni already, and most recently by Cox.  I think he is going to switch things up some (**fingers crossed**).  And I sure hope (???) Sirianni saw how functional the offense looked that first drive last week with Hurts under center and integrating a traditional running game into the game plan.  Up until then his scheme has been as suspect as Gannon’s … it’s a shame he  couldn’t realize at the time that he should have continued with that approach even with Sanders out.  Hopefully he realizes it now … again fingers crossed he does and we see a change there (that lasts longer than a single drive).  I’m feeling cautiously optimistic about these happening.

Our D leaves everyone underneath wide open.  Goff is accurate and will hit those receivers.  Take the Lions and 3 1/2 points.

You kidding? Half the time I come here it's because I want to yell at people. If everyone's reacting rationally to everything, I'd have to go outside or get some exercise or something.

Kinda like sitting on the front porch waiting for kids to trespass so you can yell at them to get off your lawn?  That kind of satisfaction?

Oh, man, I can't wait to be really old. My wife is a nice sweet lady, she's going to be trying to lure kids in with cookies and kindness, and I'm going to be on that porch ruling the neighborhood like a damn king talking about how it was in my day, before bicycle helmets and phones.

Lions converted 3 punts last week, they have played hard all year long and played some good teams tough.  They will easily beat the eagles.

I wouldn't say easily but yeah I think they are going to beat us. They play hard, they play tough and they have run some pretty good teams close. Didn't they lose to time expiring FGs to both the Saints and Vikings? Sure neither are particularly good teams right now but they are better than us.

Ravens beat them on a 66 ydr.

If the eagles lose to the lions, look for the wheels to come completely off......

Except for Cox, the vets have been pretty quiet about the sh-- show we've all been seeing.  But losing to the lions will really get under their skin and make the eagles a league laughingstock.  But maybe it will really piss off Lurie and get some kind of changes rolling.

I think Sirianni and Gannon have already lost some of the players and the eagles get beat sunday.

Lions 27....Eagles 24

If I were a bettor I would stay far away from this game. The Lions are bad but the Eagles being favored on the road is madness. I feel like we are being trolled by the sportsbooks.
