My neighbors are traveling to Chapel Hill in a week to visit their daughter who is running track at UNC this year. They are going to be staying just over a week and so are looking for some options on a shorter trip to some other part of the state. They know about Asheville and also somewhere down on the coast near Wilmington. What other places would be worth a two day sort of visit? For example, they aren't golfers but Pinehurst is not that far but I have no idea if it is interesting or not if one isn't golfing.

Blowing Rock would be a good one and it’s closer to Chapel Hill than Asheville is. There’s really not a whole lot to recommend to visitors between the mountains and the coast.

Also, if they’re wine drinkers they could visit the vineyards south and west of Winston Salem.

Yeah, I thought as much and when I looked into it I really didn't see much of anything that jumped out. Chapel Hill is nice to visit for a day but then that's where they are setting up their base for the visit.

I think they are set on the coast now that I've spoke with them today. Lots of choices there.
