I think 34 would have caught and tackled him if he had gone the other direction. I don't think Kelce knew how the blocking behind him was developing, otherwise Kelce would have blocked the defender to push him outside I think. The middle was wide open if Kelce had blocked it differently. The outside less so. 1

Kelce has somehow despite being so hurt this year found a way to be even better. Are we watching the same video or am I missing something here? If he followed right behind Kelce, #34 was right there to tackle him. He actually gained more yardage doing what he did. 1 1

Right at the end bud... he goes right, Kelce goes left and you can see Kelce throw his hands up a little.

Devaster Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Kelce did the smart thing and textbook play. Block the defender inside and allow your teammate the outside lane. But the outside was covered by 34 there. Defenses always try to funnel offensive plays inside to the center of the field where more defenders are typically available to tackle. That just wasn't the case on that particular run. I don't think there is anything that really could have been done differently unless Kelce had magically known that the inside lane was the better one to block for. Sanders made the right choice. Kelce made the sound football choice, but it wasn't the one that would have yielded the most yards. 1

Don't get me wrong glad we have Sanders but I prefer a NS grind it out back. It's all about how and when to use the breakaway back and the downhill thumper, Sirianni hasn't quite mastered that aspect of the game. Ideally you want to start your game with the thumper, let him beat up the defense for about a quarter or so, after the D has taken some licks, that's when you bring in your breakaway back for the second, third, and midway through the fourth to close the game out. Needless to say that's in a perfect world and even in that perfect world you'd bring in your thumper while the breakaway guy is getting the majority of the carries in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters when needed.
proveagle Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Glad he had a good game but my sphincter clinches every time he runs the ball hoping he doesn't cough it up, miss the read and/or try to break the big one and not take the 4-5 to move the chains. He is flashy but personally I hope the Eagles don't sign him to a 2nd contract. Plenty of good backs in FA and draft for cheaper than 2nd contract $. 1

The way is saw it Kelce couldn’t engage the block, because Sanders made the inside move too quickly. If he didn’t show his hand or even least the defender more into Kelce he probably gets more yards there.

He's still playing at such a high level. He thought about retirement a couple years ago but he has a lot more football in him. 1
vaff Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Brian Westbrook and LeSean McCoy both averaged 4.6 yards/carry while with the Eagles. Miles Sanders is averaging 5.1 y/a in his career, and 5.5 y/a this year. 1

MidMoFo Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 Sanders expected to play tomorrow, anyone know what kind of procedure he needed on his hand? 1
