Not going to happen. Work together is now equivalent to treason, for the party crap birds in both parties.

Which bodes well for no one.

Government is broken.

I believe the filibuster is overused. I don’t know if it must go away completely, but its use should be limited.

@DrPhilly, I'm sure you appreciate the inclusion of "both sides" here :D

Then it should be harder for them to work alone.  If the voters want them to ram their agenda through then they'll tell them that by voting them huge majorities.  In this case the Democrats won the white house partly  because their candidate promised not to end the filibuster.  Sucks for them.

Yeah, removing a system of checks within the government is always a good idea.

I can't wait for the argument points to completely switch when Repubs get the majority like the Dems have now.   The Repubs will be all about getting rid of it then, while the Dems will screech about how we need the filibuster because it prevents authoritarian rule

Just pointing out the fallacy of your work together plan.

I have no doubts that as soon a  GOP person puts this forth when they have the majority, you will be 100% onboard and in support of what you rail against today.

True, but that is the problem with the Pandora's box used by the right and left to demonize the other side.

Now everything is black and white, us and them, and them is always EVIL and wants to DESTROY the world.

My prediction is, if the Republicans take control of Congress, they will do what the Dems are now unable to do, and end the filibuster to promote their autocratic agenda.

Fighting fallacy with fallacy.  Who can argue with that.

there has to be some common ground to work with. i'm not even sure what that would be at this point, but the bigger issue is, it's an all or nothing mentality out there.

ride or die or F you.

The entire foundation of American government is the idea that you have to work together to get things done.   You can have different parties that will have their different opinions, agendas, etc. but the idea of compromise and meeting in the middle is the entire Fing point.  No one person or group is supposed to rule over the country unchecked.

So of course the only reasonable move is to get rid of something that forces them to do that.

Everything would work just fine if these a-holes in Washington gave a crap about anything higher or outside of themselves.

And yet they didn't when they had control a short time ago.  Weird.

McConnell eliminated the filibuster for SCOTUS nominees in 2017 in order to get Gorsuch on the bench.

Yes, and this supports my prediction that they will do it, if they regain control of Congress. Also, let's not forget, he refused to hold hearings, let alone a vote, on Obama's nominee, for an entire year. McConnell doesn't play fair, why should Democrats?

After Harry Reid had eliminated for judicial nominees, and refused to go further.  And there was no push from within for him to go further.  Not even for abortion.  They may wind up proving me wrong, and I'll oppose it.  I'll lose though, because you'll support their efforts, right?

Round and round we go.

…and then we have the POTUS veto raising the bar to 2/3 should the sitting POTUS not be from the same party as the 51% in Congress. Shall we do away with that as well?

So the Democrats can institutionalize voter fraud and install a permanent communist regime in the U.S.

I'm not sure what's right at this point. But like others have said, I believe that the Republicans are primed to do exactly this the next time the have the majority. Mitch has shown himself to be nothing if not cold and calculating. In the current environment, I think that failing to eliminate it while in power is willfully ceding the last bit of leverage that the left still has. I do like the idea of returning to a "talking filibuster" as a compromise, though.

If they do, I’ll be against it. I don’t think they will, but the Republicans disappoint me all the time.
