Wentz has a $28 million dollar cap hit but they could save $13 million by cutting him. Still, they'd have to eat $15 million in dead money so they'd in effect be paying more than $62 million for Rodgers to come there.

The Eagles would have to pay out the nose (draft wise, and financially) to land Rodgers. This, to me, is the core of the argument. If the Eagles were locked across the board on both sides of the ball and a superstar QB could win them two or three Lombardi trophies over the next few years then trade everything you have to get him. But that's not the case. The Eagles need so much help in so many critical spots they'd be fools to "go big or go home". They have three top 20 picks which gives them the opportunity to upgrade immediately. Howie: please don't screw this up with a moronic move for an aging, disgruntled, very expensive pipe dream.

I think the front office recognizes this. But at the end of the day, speculation about making a big splash at QB generates clicks, so sports reporters and wannabes will do what they do and continue to write about it. As for Howie - he ain't the GM genius he was made out to be in 2017 nor is he the village idiot he's made out to be today. That being said, my gut tells me that Lurie and Roseman understand the state of the team and this roster vis a vis its limitations very well.

Yup, it's already been a year of the Eagles "linked to" Watson and Wilson. All it takes is some blogger to write an idea like "the Eagles should try to trade for..." and then it becomes "reports" or "the Eagles are reportedly..." It's the equivalent of someone in TATE or on reddit throwing out an idea and it becomes news.

I just hope they resist the temptation to make a splash and use their remarkable draft assets to methodically rebuild. And while they will be generally fine with cap space, let's not forget they have to eat another $22 million in dead cap next year even though Wentz comes off the list.
January 19, 20223 yr chances are that 1 of those first round picks will bust & another will just be meh. hopefully the third one hits...and hits big, bay-bay!
January 20, 20223 yr Obviously too early to say but based on schedule alone, despite being #2 this year, we again should get a number of the worst teams in the league to beat up on. The 3 #2 seeding games have netted us are Cardinals, Steelers and Saints. Hardly daunting given the last two have QB issues. We also play NFC North and AFC South next year which each have 2 teams which aren’t that good. So between WASx2, NYGx2, Jags, Texans, Saints, Steelers, Lions, Bears. That’s 10 the 17 games. You then also have Vikings and Colts. A lot will depend on the off-season and how some of these teams address QB and whether someone like a Lawrence or Fields makes a big leap next year but just pointing out schedule at this very early stage doesn’t look too bad, with plenty of winnable games.

Apart from the division games: Home: Vikings, Packers, Saints, Titans, Jaguars, Steelers Away: Bears, Lions, Cardinals, Colts, Texans It's a tougher schedule than this year and we'll see how some of these teams might improve.
January 22, 20223 yr I expected "suckage" for 2022 before the 2021 season began. I thought we'd have a couple years of "suckage” while Howie tried to clean up the mess he made with the cap (prohibiting us from making many moves in free agency). 2021 went better than I expected (still a lot of work to do but not "suckage"). With continued cap issues to clean up we have to rely pretty much solely on building through the draft. Howie seemed to have a pretty solid draft last year ... how well he uses the picks this year and is able to string together 3-4 consecutive solid drafts will go a long way to determine how far we are able to stray from the "suckage” path.
January 24, 20223 yr It took 52 years to win our first Superbowl. looking like we're in for 52 more years That's about how long Howie's rebuild is gonna take.
