I have a Genesis gas grill. I really like it a lot. It is around a 2011 or 2012 model and I bought it used around '14 or '15 for $400. It works great and is still in great condition despite being stored outside (typically covered but not always) year round. From everything I've read and heard from friends it is worth the extra $$$ to step up to a Genesis rather than buying a Spirit even it means getting used. Genesis are made in USA (or at least they were until recently) whereas Spirit are made in China and are generally lower quality.

Love it! For about 4 years at the tail end of my bachelor life its how I fed myself 85% of the time. Like Imp said.... spend the extra $$$ and get the Genesis. Much higher quality. The only reason you shouldn't get a Genesis over a Spirit is if you need something smaller, IMO.
