I watched it last night - pretty good. Spoiler I think it would have been better if they hadn't made it where the spiders kept getting bigger and bigger. Early on, they were acting just like a spider would - just trying to stay away from people. Then when they went away from real spiders and into the CGI stuff it felt alot less believable. Also - the french to english translations were pretty bad at times

The guy who made Terrifier 2 will watch it and cry wishing he had done it. I've seen reviews calling it a new innovation for horror and slashers and it kind of is but I think it's influence may be limited because I don't think much of what it does visually can be repeated by other films. Visually, it's like someone made a slasher movie but has never watched a movie and only played video games. That's not a complaint, it totally works, but I'm not sure how it will play when it's no longer novel if someone tries to copy it. The complete lack of score with only ambient sounds of the woods is really effective. Definitely worth the watch. Did you watch this in a theater? I think if I had watched it on a big screen it would have been more effective - as it were I was at home and more easily distracted during some of the slower moments.

I was kind of half-watching it in the background while working, and I remember laughing at the English translations, so I turned it off halfway through.

I think you are right that the immersion that come with seeing it theatrically helps. I probably would have done the same thing as you if I watched it at home.

The GOAT of spider movies will always be Arachnophobia - perfect blend of comedy and terror.

Yeah and I think it needs to be said that for as much as it delivers from an entertainment/visual angle, its also got some actual "substance", meaningful things to say about aging. Its kinda like the menopause Carrie sequel you never knew you needed.
November 2, 20241 yr Author I posted the pictures of my Halloween decorations for everyone, because that’s my favorite time of year/Holiday. It takes a lot of work to put that together and the kids love it. It was also Hudson’s first year trick r treating, and it was honestly one of the best experiences of my life watching her go door to door in her witch costume. We are always the last house in the neighborhood where people come to trick or treat too, and my Michael Myers costume terrifies all the neighborhood children. Unfortunately, it’s a one-piece murder suit, so I can’t take the pants off. However, we got home, put the kids to bed, and I demanded that we watch the Substance, which was a perfect end to a perfect evening. It was the most disgusting movie I’ve ever seen, the kids were asleep, and it was just the perfect evening. @mikemack8 didn’t even send me any scrotum pics for once. Then I wake up this morning to a screaming 1-year old, and before I can even struggle out of bed, my wife unfreezes Mariah Carey, and the transformation begins. We both work from home on Fridays, and the Halloween decorations are gone, there are 5 Christmas trees in my house, I have been walking back and forth to my shed since 8 am, and our whole house looks like the North Pole. This is the horror movie thread, and this is my horror story.

It’s safe to say she did not really know what she was getting into. She just saw pretty girls and Demi Moore in the previews and probably thought it was like Dancing with the Stars. Even though the movie is really gross, it’s also pretty comical.
November 18, 20241 yr Author I saw a couple Found Footage movies recently for the first time. Just a warning for novices out there that think you might like found footage. It’s tough to find a good one. Most of them are unwatchable, but then you find some gems and it gives you hope. Rorschach (2015) - so overrated. You read reviews that it’s the scariest movie on the internet. It’s not. There’s a doll and a family. It was stupid and not one part of it was scary. There are Monsters - really liked it. Lot of reviews mentioning that Smile and Smile 2 ripped off the idea from this movie. It’s super low budget, but it is very very creepy.
November 19, 20241 yr Can anyone recommend some newer films that don't rely heavily on shock tactics or graphic gore? I don't mind these elements, but I feel like they've been overused lately. I’m looking for something more of a slow burn.
