Can anyone recommend some newer films that don't rely heavily on shock tactics or graphic gore? I don't mind these elements, but I feel like they've been overused lately. I’m looking for something more of a slow burn.

Oddity was sort of like that - had a few jump scares but it was more unsettling than anything.  If you really like slow burn and want to check out any TV shows instead, watch any of Mike Flanagan's stuff.  Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, Fall of the House of Usher.  They were all pretty good.

All kidding aside, have you seen Longlegs yet?  It’s one of the best new horror movies I’ve seen recently and a majority of this movie is a psychological rollercoaster. It also has some shock factor, but I’d put this one at the top of the list.

I loved Oddity.  That director knows how to create the creepiest settings possible.

Nope. I got that cleared up a few weeks back. I can’t tell you how relieved I am to take burn-free pees again.

I've been meaning to check out both movies. I was initially put off by Nicolas Cage's voice in the trailers for Longlegs, and I wondered how long I could tolerate it before it became annoying, haha. That’s part of the reason I haven’t watched it yet.

I appreciate the TV recommendations, too. Thanks, fellas!

Check out Strange Darling. It's not a pure horror film but it has some of the same elements. I consider it a "wife friendly" horror, a movie you can both watch and she'll pay attention to instead of judging and plotting out a divorce.

Anyone watching "the Creep Tapes” with  Mark Duplass on Shudder?  I love it. Very straightforward. If you haven’t seen the movie "Creep” and "Creep 2,” watch those first. Creep is one of my favorite found footage movies ever. Mark Duplass is better in this role than he is as a comedian.

Creep was fantastic. What is this Creep Tapes? Is it a documentary or behind the scenes footage of the making of the movies?

It basically goes right in line with the movie.

Spoiler

Mark Duplass is the serial killer and he keeps tapes of everything.  So there are 3 episodes that have come out so far, and each one is a 30 minute episode of how he meets and murders someone.

I saw the first three episodes when I was down at Fantastic Fest as one of the secret screenings and they were really good.  Duplass was there to intro them and said he did the series because he was having trouble coming up with storylines that warranted a feature length film. I agree that this format actually makes more sense for this series.  I really need to watch the rest of the episodes.

They drop an episode every Friday, and there have only been 3 so far so you’re all caught up!

I don't know where else to post this but if anyone is still watching From, abandon ship. The season finale last night was stupid as hell.

I was holding out so I could binge it all - I'll probably still watch and I'll be the judge if it was stupid, ****!

Getting in the holiday spirit.  Tonight's entertainment:

A woman finds she is part of a NSDAP breeding experiment with elves to create supermen. She and friends are trapped in a store with an elf. Only a renegade Santa Claus can save them.

A friend of mine recommended Humanoids from the Deep. Usually, their taste in movies is pretty terrible, but this film was fun. It's available on Prime if anyone is interested.

So this scene happens about 10 minutes into the movie.  It turns out to be the most normal relationship in this family.

What a creepy little fart. 😂  I wish I was older in the 80s. I feel like comments like that would just get swept under the rug.  If and when one of my girls says something this offensive in today’s society of Karens and libs, they’ll both be picked up by social services.

Anyone else gonna drink a crap load of whiskey, pop a gummy and watch Thankskilling or just me?

Holy sheetballs, I just saw an awesome new found footage.  It's only 1 hr and 2 minutes long too.  It's called "Milk & Serial."  Twists and turns, low budget, and you can only see it on Youtube   If you like that genre, I highly recommend.
