I don't mind these elements, but I feel like they've been overused lately. I’m looking for something more of a slow burn. Have you watched Hereditary? The shock scenes largely take place off screen, but holy hell that last 20 minutes is scary. Also, if you haven’t watched The Conjuring movies they’re pretty good too.

I loved the first two Conjuring movies, but couldn’t get into the third one too much (though it was still pretty good). I might have to rewatch it.
December 17, 20241 yr Author I just saw quite possibly the worst horror movie ever made. I've seen some bad ones before, I couldn't stop watching this because the acting was so horrendous. There's no chance the budget was over $100. It's called Human Hibachi. And apparently they made a 2nd. Spoiler At one point, there's a dead guy's head in the center of the dinner table, and he has his own phenis in his mouth like a pig with an apple. He's blinking the entire time on camera.

It's probably one of the better horror films I've seen her a while. The dark and the wicked was okay, but I didn't like the ending. The witch was really really good.
December 19, 20241 yr I saw Nosferatu last night. Won’t get into details until people have a chance to see it but I liked it a lot. Strong recommend.

Unbelievable. I was literally just coming in here to ask if you or anyone has seen this or Heretic yet? I've heard very positive reviews on both. I'm going to theaters the first week in January to see Nosferatu. I'll catch Heretic once our family stops watching all this Christmas nonsense every single night.

I haven't watched heretic yet but I have it high on my watchlist. It ran as a secret screening at Fantasticfest the day before I got there so I missed seeing it then and just never had time to watch it since then. I've heard really positive things about it though so am excited to see it.

When Evil Lurks is in my top 3 for the year. That movie creeped me out the entire time. I wasn't a big fan of the Dark and the Wicked. I honestly thought it was a little boring, and the expectations were very high.
December 19, 20241 yr Cuckoo had a promising trailer but I thought it was pretty boring. I was struggling to get through it. No tranny boobs in it either.
January 4, 20251 yr Watched beetle juice beetle juice and trap the last two nights - both fun but nothing spectacular. Trap second half was kinda all over the place but Josh Hartnett really stole the show for me. He was fantastic. Also - they shouldn’t do closeups of Shymalans daughters face - she looks like E.T.
January 5, 20251 yr Heretic was solid. I’m not a Hugh Grant fan at all but he was next to brilliant in his performance (never seen him in anything else but chick flicks) and the story was also interesting as I went in expecting something else but also knowing very little on what this movie was about. It’s entertaining, not mind blowing but it’s watchable and holds interest through out its entirety always wanting to know what’s going to happen next. 97% on rotten tomatoes probably because it’s something original

January 10, 20251 yr Author I just saw "Get Away," the newest horror movie on Shudder that came out today. It's funny, witty, bloody, and super entertaining. For a minute, I thought it was going to be somewhat of a comical ripoff of Midsommar, but it goes in a totally different direction. I definitely recommend. Also finally saw "Nosferatu" in theaters the other day. It's hard to describe in words how good that movie is. Bill Skarsgard as Nosferatu is exceptional. My skin was crawling every time he spoke. I had a slight gripe with the ending, but I understand this is a remade classic, and it was brilliant.
January 11, 20251 yr Terrifier 3 jumped the shark for me. I get this franchise was always over the top but it felt like most of the third film was trying way too hard. There wasn’t even really a plot to this story at all that would have taken more than 10 minutes to explain.

I watched this last night - definitely did not see the "twist" The story was so so but the characters were pretty great

There is gore in it, but the movie sure as hell doesn’t rely on it. Side note: My MIL has MS and has to stay with us once a month over the weekend. She was getting a little bossy with me last Saturday night, so when she laid down to sleep for the night I put Midsommar on for her and told her it was a romantic comedy that takes place in lovely Sweden.
January 18, 2025Jan 18 Author I rented the newer "Speak No Evil” tonight and just started it. I feel like someone gave a review of it earlier but I can’t remember. @Shepard Wong maybe? Anyway, I always thought it was strange that they remade this already since the original came out in 2022. I loved the original, but I’ve also never felt such intense anger after watching a movie in my life. If you see the original, you’ll understand what I mean.

I’ll leave my comments in spoilers, but don’t read them until you see it. James MaCavoy is a phenomenal psychopath. I would definitely recommend! Spoiler The original is way better because of the shock factor and the emotions it creates. The end of that movie will haunt me and anger me till I’m dead. They obviously changed this ending for mainstream Hollywood purposes. It was still really good, and MaCavoy stole the show, but it drug on for too long in my opinion. Still a really good movie.
