August 16, 20214 yr Author This just in from the Economist Quote Research suggests that when looking for a partner, women look for men roughly the same age as them (or perhaps a year or two older) and men prefer women in their early twenties, regardless of their own age. Are they choosing wisely? who knew?

August 30, 20214 yr Author Helen Joyce (Irish journalist who is executive editor for events business of The Economist - wikipedia) has published a new book "Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality". It has been released in the UK and has been in the top 5 sellers now for 6 weeks running. Reviews have been mainly positive, e.g. Telegraph calling it "superlative critical analysis of trans activism and observing, Joyce shows an impressive capacity to handle complex statistics, legal statutes, and other bits of evidence without losing clarity or narrative drive". There is also a mixed from The Guardian and one negative via Publishers Weekly where they describe the book as "alarmist" and "one sided". The book is now about to be launched in the US. Sadly, no US publisher will touch it. The topic is of course controversial and the author has been under attack from the trans community for a few of her statements (from what I can gather this is mostly due to her objection to medical intervention in young kids on gender topics). This is the type of "soft" cancel that is alarming. Of course the book will still come out via British publisher so she isn't "cancelled" per se but the behavior of the publishing community and their inability to manage "the mob" is damaging and alarming and is an example of a potential long term problem.
August 30, 20214 yr Author @Toastrel If you want to discuss bring it here. The book is a best seller in the UK and has been for several weeks. The reviews have been significantly positive. Are you suggesting she is lying about not getting a US publisher? Could be.
August 30, 20214 yr Who cares? I am not reading her garbage. Anyway, it sounds like a one-sided narrative. If she won't listen to the trans community, why should I listen to her? If US publishers don't want their name on the book, that's their choice. Are you suggesting we take away decision-making from the publishers? Who gets to decide what they have to publish?

Really? Where do you get all of this from? How exactly did you form an opinion leading you to write "her garbage"?

August 30, 20214 yr Author Toast: "How did it become a best seller?" - It sold a lot of books in the UK, duh. Toast: "What proof do you have that no US publisher would publish her book?" - She said so in an interview. I already posted a link for you to look at. Maybe she is lying. Do you have any proof that is the case?  Other questions? @Toastrel

August 30, 20214 yr Author Just now, toolg said: I am not interested reading it. And I have suspicion anyone who takes on the subject is prejudiced. Ok so just a suspicion. Seems pretty harsh to call it garbage just based on that. Her criticism was about the activism not trans people and her big thing seems to be the introduction of medicine pre puberty to stop gender development. That seems to be the big one for the activists. Seems like a reasonable topic to debate to me.  The Telegraph review said ""superlative critical analysis of trans activism and observing that Joyce shows an impressive capacity to handle complex statistics, legal statutes, and other bits of evidence without losing clarity or narrative drive". I haven't read it (I''m not interested in doing so either) so maybe it sucks but the reviews are quite positive.

August 30, 20214 yr Yes @DrPhilly I have a question, but you seemed to prefer moving the conversation (under the guise of me 'requesting' it) than in answering.
