I've had to buy more than I can count, while I have a drawer of unused USB-C cables because not a single one has failed for any of the devices I have for them. But the issue here is the EU forcing Apple to implement a USB-C port natively. It'd be one thing if they said Apple had to include lightning adapters with all their products, but this will directly impact device designs. In principle, I'm all about private enterprise coming together to form a consortium to develop industry standards and best practices. But I also think, any companies (especially ones with the resources that Apple has) that think they can improve upon those standards, should be given the opportunity to and then let the market bear out if they succeeded or not. I understand the flipside of this too, like in the home automation space, where a lack of proper standards is super frustrating. Heck even Bluetooth was a disaster in the early stages and overall has seen a lack of progress compared to what was initially envisioned, but at least innovation in the wireless peripherals space was never truly stifled and any issues there can be arguably traced back to limitations with the technology and use cases itself.
October 4, 20223 yr I agree with what you wrote. But they blow and f Apple for forcing them on people.
October 4, 20223 yr The Apple/EU news is totally expected. I've been waiting to update my iPhone until this was announced. Now let's see the market react to a USB iPhone!

October 11, 20223 yr @we_gotta_believe @paco @Imp81318 FYI. The state dropped the case against Adnan Syed From what I gather, there is something regarding DNA evidence that proves/disproves the case.

The state dropped the case against Adnan Syed From what I gather, there is something regarding DNA evidence that proves/disproves the case. I just finished reading about it and was about to post about it. Was trying to find the posts to reply to when I saw your notification. Eerie. Sounds like the results were inconclusive but the defense lawyer is saying the results exonerated Syed, which isn't typical with DNA unless there's a match to an actual known person with a motive. This is what the baltimore sun reported a couple weeks back... "What I am seeing is results that indicate poor quality of DNA even if it was there. It’s just a case where DNA doesn’t look like it’s going to help much,” said Dr. Michael Marciano, a former DNA analyst in Onondaga County, New York, who now teaches forensic science as a professor in Syracuse University’s Forensic and National Security Sciences Institute. That could have to do with the amount of time Lee’s body was exposed to the elements: Last seen on Jan. 13, 1999, Lee was discovered dead in the park about a month later, on Feb. 9. "Insect life, wildlife, weather, rain — all bad things for retaining DNA evidence,” Marciano said. Suter, Syed’s attorney, authored the joint request with prosecutors asking the court to test items collected as evidence of Lee’s killing, which had not been analyzed before, to be sent out for testing. The logic was that someone who engaged in the type of struggle authorities believed Lee was in before she was strangled to death would have left some of their DNA behind. If Syed’s genetic material wasn’t on the evidence, Suter argued, that would support the claims of innocence he’s maintained since he was arrested. https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/crime/bs-md-ci-cr-adnan-syed-case-dna-testing-20220927-lgubxvkjnvdcjoknvq7rzszcva-story.html

Perhaps. But I believe that the body was moved, therefore there would be DNA evidence left at the scene. If DNA doesn't match Syed then somebody else was there. The only evidence left against Syed is Jay's testimony, which is inconsistent and untrustworthy. I feel if they can't place Syed at the scene, they can't charge him with the crime. They need to find out whose DNA was left at the scene.

If DNA doesn't match Syed then somebody else was there. Your shoes probably have a mixture of DNA on them, almost certainly your wife's or other family members. Shoes are rarely washed. But that's not to say that DNA from an encounter with someone you fought with that day would've also been present on the shoes and survived a month in the same conditions. If this were DNA recovered from fingernails or on her skin (especially in a body cavity), that'd be a different story. In a court of law, it still helps Syed's case and weakens the prosecution's case, but it's a stretch to say it exonerated him in a court of public opinion. Casey Anthony's DNA was never found in the car or on other evidence either. Quote The only evidence left against Syed is Jay's testimony, which is inconsistent and untrustworthy. I feel if they can't place Syed at the scene, they can't charge him with the crime. They need to find out whose DNA was left at the scene. Cell phone tower data has entered the chat. There was also Adnan and Jay's friend who admitted to helping Jay bury the shovels.
