Deebo may be a better weapon (though that's up for debate) but you've got to have the right system and use him right.

The same receivers that basically Wentz had who weren’t making plays for him either. If the Eagles loved their receivers so much the they don’t make the trade they made. Now does Hurts need to improve? I believe so, but this idea that he had these great weapons was a joke. These guys were stepping out of bounds on touchdown passes, running wrong routes, catching passes while losing yards, and flat out dropping passes that hit them in the hands. How many winning teams did Wentz beat in 2020? Receivers were wide open all year long. They changed to a more running scheme because the QB isn't able to see them. You live in a weird world

Anyways keep crying because Hurts is still your quarterback.

I thought the same initially but you can blame teams like Las Vegas and Miami for this ... the WR market was completely reset these past few weeks when they traded a truckload of picks for Adams and Hill, respectively, and then proceeded to pay them QB money. I do wish we could have gotten him with only 18 ... giving up 101 hurts a bit considering we lost our 4 and 2 of our 5s to move up from 15 to 13. But we had a huge need at WR and Howie obviously has a hard time drafting them (Smith being the outlier).

Completely false statement, but even when I was done with Wentz I’ve never rooted for him to fail. Sure looked like it to me, and I'm not alone. You HATED the guy. Well once he left Eagle green I openly rooted for him to fail, but never as the Eagles quarterback. If anything I wanted him to prove me wrong. This blind hate you all have for Hurts is kind of sad. Rooting for him to fail means you’re basically rooting for the Eagles to fail.

It was prudent to look for an upgrade over Reagor or bring in someone to push him for playing time. We signed Pascal last month. I just didn't view WR as a huge need. I would have been happy to see us use that 1st rd pick on a CB and draft someone like Watson in the 2nd or 3rd.

April 29, 20223 yr With the attempted trade for Ridley and the interest in receiver in free agency, I think it was pretty clear we were going to target a receiver with one of our first round picks. I was devastated when the Lions snagged Williams at 12 because all the ones left on the board were iffy after that huge run on receivers. It just seemed like history was repeating itself and we had a high probability of adding another Howie Roseman bust at receiver early in the draft. Then it's announced we snagged AJ Brown with that pick who has a 0.0% chance of being a bust and is already established as one of the best young receivers in the game. Incredible. I honestly don't know how anyone could have an issue with this move. Then you consider what the Dolphins gave up for Hill, the Raiders gave up for Adams, and even what the Cardinals gave up for Hollywood Brown, and this move looks even better.

This is a move you make in 2003, when you're one player away from getting to the Super Bowl. He did the same thing with Hurts in 2018. This is a luxury move, we have needs that could have been filled with those picks.

April 29, 20223 yr Before everyone blows their wad calling Howie a genius, step back and look at the situation. With AJ Brown: Howie said in his PC they really liked him in that draft...in 2019 when he was taken #51. Eagles had #53 (Sanders) and #57 (JJAW). You mean to tell me they really liked him but couldn't trade up in that 2nd round just 2 spots for him? The draft assets it would have taken to move up there would have been minimal compared to what they gave up last night. So they miss out on him, pass on Metfalf (I know, lots of teams did because of his injury) then the next year miss on Jefferson to take Reagor (there were other WRs in 2020 to take). So Howie blows 2 WR picks 2 years in a row (finally Smith was good because he was #10 hard to screw up) and then this year trades away a 1st and a 3rd when he could have had him in that draft for a 2nd plus a mid round pick. AJ Brown is coming of his worst year so far with lower production and some missed games, a contract year where he was demanding a big contract or a trade. Obviously if he gets back to that 1000 yards and around 10 TD season then that's great. But let's put this in perspective: since Howie can't draft and failed so many times at WR, he had to trade draft picks to get a proven one. Which is great to have a solid player, plus they have so many roster needs on defense and good defensive talent was to be had. Finally, a reason he gave for trading 1 of the 3 first rounders to the Saints was to not have to pay 3 players in their contract year...well that's BS because they had to be working on this AJ Brown deal. He was working out with Jalen Hurts last week. The way teams were trading, they should have waited. Could've traded for AJ Brown and still kept 2 first round picks to add another defensive talent. Hopefully this all works out but let's see in 2 years how we look back at the talent in this 1st round and what they got. Howie talks about draft assets then gives a 4th and 2 5ths just to move up 2 spots for Davis.

They just signed the best edge rusher on the market in Reddick. They still have a second and third round pick to take any combination of CB, Safety, and another DE. They still have assets to trade, like Dillard, if Howie wants to pick up another mid round pick. This team had too many weaknesses to fix in a single offseason. They’re off to a good start and still have picks to work on addressing those other weaknesses.

It would have been a "luxury move" if AJ Brown was a 30 year old with one or two good seasons left in him. AJ Brown is 24. He's young enough to produce at a high level for close to a decade.
