Poll: Why did Putin invade Ukraine while Obama and Biden were in office and not while Trump was in office

Why did Putin invade Ukraine while Obama and Biden were in office and not while Trump was in office?

21 members have voted

  1. 1. Why did he time the invasions when he did?

    • He invaded Crimea because Obama did not follow up with his red line in the sand and invaded Ukraine proper because Biden bungled the Afghan withdrawal.
    • He invaded in 2022 because Trump weakened NATO and did not want to stop Trump from doing so.

Russian forces were fighting in Ukraine throughout the entire Trump presidency.

The armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine started in 2014. Between then and early 2022, it had already  killed over 14,000 people. Over the course of eight years, Ukrainian government forces fought  Russian-backed separatists for control over much of the two heavily industrialised regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, also known as Donbas.

How did Trump weaken NATO ?. one of few good things he did was put pressure on other countries to contribute more, is there another option, neither is valid really although the first is more valid

It's all bs.  They invent a reason without factual backup, you give them reasons WITH factual backup, and he says you haven't given him a reason.  Go argue with someone like that.

He said it was outdated and unnecessary and hinted multiple times that he thought the US should leave it. Without the US, NATO dissolves. Trump's rhetoric regarding NATO was cowardly and pathetic and served only the Soviets national security interests.

So in other words, NATO was inextricably weakened by Trump so much that Putin decided to invade (but not before Biden bungled the Afghan withdrawal).

If NATO is so weak, then why do Finland and Sweden want to join?  And as a follow up, where have you seen this theory of the timing of the invasion other than on the Eagles Message Boards?

NATO was weaponing up due to agreements from 2014 after Russia's annexation of Crimea.

It was an open secret that Trump wanted to pull the US from NATO. Putin figured having a useful idiot in the White House who was hostile towards NATO and making moves to reduce America's projection of military power around the world might make for a better environment to engage in imperialistic military actions. So he waited.

This isn't that complicated. Unless you actually buy into the notion that Trump was somehow tough.

I can't help that sort of mental issue. See a professional.

Brilliant.  I see you're from the John Bolton crew.

If it's not so complicated, go out on the net and find a source outside the EMB who supports this ridiculous theory.

Okay idiot - here's a video that supports your point of view.  Most of the country disagrees.

One thing I think we can all agree on is that thank God he invaded under Biden because if Trump was President Ukraine would've fallen months ago.

I wonder how many of our troops would have died as part of the invasion if Trump was POTUS ??

Unlike those who you support, I believe in free speech and am not afraid of opposing points of view.

Probably none, just like with Biden, it's just that Trump would've praised Putin (we know that for a fact, since that's exactly what he did back in February), wouldn't have even tried to rally the world (and no one would've listened anyway since he's so hated globally), and would have skimped on military aid.  Zero doubt that Putin would've achieved his goals by now.

I see Boogyman voted for the second option.  Makes me seriously reconsider my position . . .
