73 yard fg & Meg.

I'm sure meg will post a couple obscure articles with no links or sources to support his position.

If can help save lives, then yes I support Universal Background Checks. That is just one step towards making it safer for children.

It is impossible to eliminate gun crime, or any other crime.

That said, there is no reason why we have to make it easier, when simple checks COULD prevent some of these deaths.

Will there be a more nuanced version of this poll later?

If not, I'm complaining to the management.

Looking at the results, nuance isn’t changing anything

I've bought guns at gun shows and I've bought from dealers, I've even bought guns from the Federal Government (sort of, the CMP) and every single gun that I've ever purchased, required a background check.

I even gifted a gun to one of my brothers and he had to go through a background check in order to be able to legally take possession of it.

So, what would be different?

@Bill Curious as to your position, if you don't mind sharing your thoughts.

I can understand the thought of not wanting the government (who at times in the past, have shown can have small areas of corruption) to have that kind of power.

at what point do we figure out that the government cant protect us and that we need to take our protection into our own hands? if im a private school right now, im bumping up security measures and marketing my school as the safest option.

After schools turn into tiny prisons with bars and guards, and the targets change, then what?

Hardened subways? Hardened toy stores? Hardened cancer centers?

The power to keep a criminal or mentally ill person from possibly obtaining a gun? Odd take.

they should be doing the same measures, but they are unfortunatley government funded, and nothing happens fast when the government is involved.

all of those places are areas where people are allowed to protect themselves. schools are different and need to be treated and protected as such.

even if you outright ban guns, and do mass confiscations, youre not going to get rid of all the guns in america. on top of that, the ability to print or build guns still exists, so there will always be the threat of gun violence. why not put efforts into protecting ourselves and our children from these things and not into trying to legislate a solution?
