I checked at around 9:20 and it was sold out

I think a big part is the people buying them just to sell for a profit. Special place in hell for those people!

It sold out pretty quick according to the interwebs. Also, of all the retailers, I trust Walmart the least.

I just watched a youtube video with a solid theory... he things PlayStation had Walmart (and others) sneak-release the pre-orders (even though they have videos with big wigs stating that PS will provide plenty of announcement).

By listing "2pm Thursday Nov 17", alllll the scammers out there can have their bots and software and all that set up to just buy out everything. Same way pre-announced release dates of single game nfl tickets, concert tickets, etc. get fleeced right quick.

With no announcement, none of the scammers are up and running and ready, so a vast majority of consoles wind up in the hands of individuals like you and I.

Speaking of which... since it looks like I got a Target (standalone unit) earlier, I would be willing to sell my GameStop bundle to someone on here to avoid myself having to deal with all the extra content I don't really have an interest in. Realistically, the shipping (second hand) would be the only costly aspect of that... not sure if when we have pre-existing orders, if (when the hype dies down), we can change/update the ship-to address?

Did you get a confirmation email from GameStop yet?  I still haven’t received mine, and it’s making me wonder if I actually have a valid preorder.  It confirmed it and gave me an order number, but I logged into their site a bit ago and while it shows up in my orders, it doesn’t seem to have a lot of info.

And that's a good thing and keeps those aholes on ebay from ripping people off.

I actually buy most of my stuff from Walmart. I have never had any issues with them. Plus if you do have a problem with them they don't really argue with you they just give you your money back no questions asked.

Their website is so outdated and horrible. I've had that issue with them in the past on multiple items. I always eventually got the item but, as far as tracking it and checking on it on their website forget about it

Isn’t Amazon great? Of all the companies offering the preorders i trust them the most.

So this is my first PS in generations and got it for only type solo games. What games are a must buy from PS4 and upcoming PS5. The Spiderman series is buy for me

spider man definitely then. granted some of these go back to PS3 that got brought to PS4...

Horizon Zero Dawn is a very unique futuristic scifi that also feels like it could take place 500 years ago

final fantasy 7 remake. Even if not an RPG person, this game is much more action based and has a really well developed story and looks beautiful

i love the 3 Tomb Raider games (very similar to Uncharted in gameplay)

while there have been a TON of Assassin's Creed games, the first of the generation (Black Flag, aka creed 4) is all pirates and pirate ships and lots of ocean sailing and naval battles and was wildly fun and unique for the franchise

I dont play really any sports or pew pew pew FPSes, but tons of madden, NBA2k, FIFA, the show, Play Station-exclusive "the show" mlb, call of dutys, battlefields, etc. list these because they are popularized as multiplayer but could be "solo" 

 

days gone, red dead redemption 2, tsushima, detroit: become human, death stranding.... all games that based on length or niche may be great to some and meh to others

 

My son plays the Assassin Creed Games, sports, and the multi-player games. The exclusive games in PS5 have really peaked my interest so definitely will check Last of Us, Uncharted and Spiderman out first

The Ratchet and Clank games are great too if you're into platformers.

I don't think so because if there was a hidden knowledge about them doing it then the websites wouldn't have crashed because they'd be aware of the traffic

A bunch of them didn't even have the playstation 5 set up on their site. I truly think Walmart wanted to get a jump start and everyone else went with it

You're going to get crashes no matter what. You get not only millions of people flooding a page all at once. But millions that are tyring to flood one specific page and one specific item 

Locking out scalpers is actually fairly straightforward. Each retailer can take the same basic steps to make sure legit purchases are being made. Things that some of them are already doing like using captchas during checkout, selling only to actual account holders and no guest accounts, limiting pre-orders to 1 per household, and most effective of all, Sony themselves should really expand this pre-order selection invite process to include a lot more gamers with actual PSN IDs and a documented history of PSN activity. Scalpers aren't gonna go through the trouble of creating a bunch of fake PSN accounts and play a bunch of games on each one just in the hopes of getting a selection invite.

I actually didn't even think of this until you said it. Best buy made me make an account when checking out with my PS5.
