BornGreen Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 Devon Allen won the 110-meter hurdles at the USATF NYC Grand Prix on Sunday, finishing with a time of 12.84 sec. Third fastest time in history, 3/100th sec from world record. lets see if that can translate with pads and first contact! 1
Vileborg Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 He was somewhat productive as a receiver at Oregon. Most Olympians have other worldly work ethic. He may be 6 years removed from football but I'm sure he's putting in the time to revitalize his skills. I have high expectations he'll turn into a serious burner. I doubt he'll have DJax style and vision but he should have the speed to blow by defenders. I miss DJax burst so much. I loved how he would come out fast and set the defenders judgment of his speed and then just turn on the jets and blow right by him. One of the best deep ball route runners who had speed to back it up. F' Chip Kelly. 6
brkmsn Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 To me, this is kind of a strange story. He's obviously really good at what he does, which is something he has always been training for. I realize there's money to be made in football if you can outplay a bunch of guys that have been specifically training for football all their lives. But you're also more likely in football to get a career ending injury. Even if he defies the odds, makes the team, contributes and earns a notable payday --- just how committed will he be to football?
RememberTheKoy Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 He only had 8 kick returns in college and that was in his first year playing. But if he makes the team it's going to have to be at wide open spot at kick and punt returner.
UK_EaglesFan89 Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Dude is fast and athletic... But if he's still running track and he's still setting times like that then surely he's going to look at the Olympics?

Actually it was 0.04 seconds shy of the record. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34081785/philadelphia-eagles-wr-devon-allen-runs-third-fastest-110m-hurdles-ever-1284 Slow AF!
EazyEaglez Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Probably can’t catch, but still has better hands than Reagor. 1

It’s a hurdling record, I don’t know how that would translate to a sport where the best hurdling players do it 2-3 times a season…. He ran a 4.35 40, which is strong enough. Saying he’s better than everyone else if theyre bunny hopping doesn’t do a lot for us

How is he at change of speed and direction?
Rob331 Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Hopefully he and Britain Covey battle it out for the punt return/last receiver spot and Jalen Reagor isn't on the team.

If he continues like this he could break the WR and win gold at the Olympics in 2024. I wouldn't risk that chance, but I understand his decision as he could make tons of money playing football.
ilikepargo Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 Just watched it. I love the face he makes for the camera at the end. Great attitude. Gives the appearance of being just the right amount of angry. Speed is a great tool, but he'll have to also know and run routes, understand and get off of coverage, catch... I definitely wish him the best.

I don’t believe they have freestyle hurdling, so plausibly the same as any other UDFA 4.4 receiver we bring in (or worse, because he didn’t play a lot in college)
D-Shiznit Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Between him and Strong, this will be the most competitive Nasty Nate Award in some time. 1
