Means nothing if

1- He can't catch the ball

2- We don;t have a QB that can throw to him

Also a big difference between track and running down the field in a physical game in full pads.

So I repeat, his speed in the Olympics means nada

Allen finished 3rd in the US Championship and made the US team for the World Championship in couple of weeks.  He definitely has speed and athletic.  He was a WR in college, and should have some abilities catching the ball.  That may be rusty after a long layoff.  Try him as a RS, where route running is not a factor.  If Mahei could do it then, no reason Allen can't do it while he has superior speed to boot.

I’m not gonna write the guy off or pump him up until we can see what he does at this level.  Raw speed is a good thing, but we know it’s not the only thing, especially for a receiver, running back or return specialist.  Jeremy Bloom has excellent top speed, but was a straight-ahead runner with no wiggle.  He proved easy to tackle and ineffective as a return man accordingly.

In the return game, simply being able to catch and secure the ball makes you Reno Mahe.  Being able to catch and secure the ball, and subsequently juke the guys trying to tackle you out of their cleats for big gains makes you Devin Hester.

In the running game, guys like Frank Gore can be effective well beyond their prime years because of good gap vision and lateral movement.

I think RS is their intention.

I think we've seen a few WRs over the years with questionable mental makeup struggle learning the nuances of the WR position while handling the stresses of securing the football while getting plugged in as KR/PR early on...not to mention the injury risk.

Any fast WR, at this point, is going to be a high draft pick who really should focus on WR first.  Allen is a unique opportunity for an athletic flier to plug right into RS with that sole focus.

He should make the team on special teams.

Put him in the slot. It would be great to watch him run past LBs across the middle.

Best to be known for something. 15 minutes of fame.

Now he gets a shot at the Eagles.

Being fast is good, but it doesn't make him a good ballplayer

But the old saw is that you can't teach speed. Can the Eagles' coaching make him a viable returner while he learns receiver? The Eagles haven't had a returning threat since I guess Djax.

Let’s hope they coach him up good. FWIW, Sproles was not so shabby a return man.
