My advice would be to lease your fun/convenience and own your assets.  Whatever car you get will depreciate every single day.  Save your money from not buying a car that will make you feel awesome for a few months, and invest in real estate.  Buy a 3-bedroom condo in NC/SC at a family-oriented beach (Ocean Isle would be my choice) for 1/2 the price you'll pay in Jersey, then rent it out to vacationers for a much longer spring and summer than you get up north for ridiculous prices.  Since you're far away, pay a property management company to take care of everything when the vacationers leave (contracts, cleaning, etc), and make sure to save yourself 1-2 weeks a year to have a free, relaxing vacation in your beach house.

I've always seen pros and cons for both buying and leasing, but knowing that I may be buying a house again (selling my current with a job move to MN), I've always read that banks like financing more than lease, because financing has a finish line where you no longer have expenses, and leasing tells the bank you will be paying $XXX dollars for eternity, since you will have to continue making payments in something new once the lease ends.

@Agent23 I think they made this video just for you. These are probably the 3 cars youll be shopping based on what youve told us.

I'm partway through this now. I have appointments to test the other two tonight and most likely next Monday for the other. I'm also leaning towards going with an SUV (I guess comparisons to the ones in the video would be X3, Q5, GLC) since the price difference between the Luxury brand versions of those and the traditional brands don't seem like anywhere near as large a gap... and spending $50-60k on an SUV just mentally feels better than spending that on a sedan lol.

Aka, I'm still completely undecided but at least taking my time.

whadya think about Tesla? My cousin just swung by the other day with his brand new model 3. I see a bunch of teslas on the road these days even in hazleton but never saw one up close. Its pretty awesome.

A fully optioned up model 3 one will go near 50k. And they dont depreciate. They are still exlusive enough that they turn heads. And theres the cool factor that people know about with its 0-60 time.

On a personal note, My optima is about 30 miles away from 100k. I was real close to going and looking at a 2017 Mazda6 with only 13,000 miles today. Tons of tech upgrades over what I currently have. But.. Im gonna hold off because I didnt like the thought of financing it for another x amount of years and still not having my Stinger! So Im gonna keep driving my hunk of junk for a while longer. My mind is made up. Stinger is the easy decision! Even with a massive upgrade from what I have, I wont be happy in anything but a Stinger. Stinger is the way to go!

I just don't trust the "refuel"ability with electric. My current townhouse as a one-car garage, but I NEVER use it (haven't put my car in it once in 2 years living here) and have a ton on misc. sheet all taking up space inside of it. I would have to clear all that out just to be able to squeeze a car in there and use a 8+ hour charge whenever it is low (my guess is most people charge on a near-daily basis, even if they don't need it, just to ensure they have maximum range any time they need it?).

Even in Syracuse... there is like ONE supercharging station in the entire area and only a very small number of additional locations that I think are only enough juice available to charge those "plug-in" hybrids that only get a 20ish mile range off their electric battery.

If/when I drive down to Elmira area to visit family, there's probably only a very small number of locations I could charge up (probably in Ithaca) and if none of them are supercharge stations you really are just F'ing yourself.

Minneapolis area, if/when I get there would likely have far more options, but it still seems whack having drive past 137 gas stations just to get to the nearest electric charge station if I need instantaneous juice and can't just go home and wait for hours to go back out.

Cousin was saying you basically charge it while you sleep and are pretty set for the next day.

He said yeah, you can spend a half hour at a tesla charging station if you need to get a big charge but you can watch netflix on the display or do whatever you want so he doesnt mind that.

You can also plug it in any wall outlet wherever you go. Visit someone's house plug it in their outside outlet. At work, plug it in while you work.

You can also use a 20V outlet at home.

Tesla also sells a wall charger you can install at your house for the fastest charging at home.

IF I had one I would for sure also invest in the home tesla charger. Id have range anxiety all the time.

Tomorrow is the real test, but strong chance I pull the trigger on an X3 M40i.

thats not a stinger!!!! nnnooooo!

We just had some stinger talk over in the blog. Someone said this

I drive a 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid and love it.  I’ve also owned a 2016 Genesis G80.  The current Genesis G70 and Kia Stinger are two of the best drivers cars on the road if you don’t want to get fleeced buying a German sedan.

I used to own a 2010 Mercedes E550 and don’t miss it much.

But if you do go SUV dont miss this video first. (I actually havent watched it yet but intend to tonight or tomorrow.)

Stop trying to make the Stinger happen

I did drive the Rav4 Hybrid last week (I think I commented on it to Hunt) and while it seemed nice and would be a very practical vehicle (which I could be happy with no problem), I am going through a "being extra" phase in my life right now so practicality is going out the window!

BMW ran my credit today so they could calculate financials. Ya boy came back with an 851. I didn't even know it was possible to go above 850?

yeah... the prime is different. You gotta read about it a bit. Or dont if youre just not gonna be interested in a toyota. But as I said, if you are considering a RAV and you have a nice chunk of money to spend, you better not buy one until youve had a chance to drive the new Rav Prime.

Theres also going to be a Durango Hellcat. If you liked the dodge muscle and want an SUV...

I had a Durango in 2007-2011. It was a fun drive but way too costly. The M40i is feeling like the winner still so I imagine I’ll be finalizing that deal sometime next week unless the unexpected happens.

Certified Pre-Owned. About 9,300mi on it and CPO warranty coverage goes until March 25, 2025; unlimited miles.

CPO purchase price is about $17,000 (when factoring in sales tax) less than buying brand new (and getting 50,000mi warranty that would expire 7/10/2024)

No need.  With the exception up changing up the MINI, we aren't in the market for a new vehicle anytime soon.

The one I had bookmarked is gone now (Lancaster). Must have sold. They have a new one that's damn near identical in features/options and is basically $20k more than what I'm paying

We are near Lancaster too. paco wants your car and has been talking about it for awhile but it’s not practical for us right now.  We will have to get rid of my MINI at some point because it’s not conducive to a car seat

How are things coming along with that? Still going down the adoption route, right?
