China fired their national weather czar so all is restored now

Most plausible theory I've seen yet: The balloon didn't just have cameras but radars / flir also, and the whole point was for the Chinese to try to pick up on the RCS or heat sigs of any of our advanced aircraft in range (e.g. a certain 5th gen fighter.)

Hopefully the Pentagon is accurate in their assessment that comms were disabled prior to dropping it.

And Pompeo!

You had several times to shoot down a Chinese balloon and failed!

One can understand why the Biden lickers fell for this big lie so quickly, given how weak Pop Pop looks right now.

Oh for sure. Anonymous single sources are always preferable to on the record officials.

In regards to this guy, yes. He did try to sell the lie that the documents found at Mar-a-Lago were declassified. He’s also the guy who didn’t disclose his work with foreign officials when applying for a security clearance.

Except it’s not just him. Other high ranking officials, who would have known, are on the record denying it too. Yet you’re all in on a single anonymous source report from one of the most discredited hacks from the Russian collusion hoax. Why is that? Because you so desperately want it to be true. Keep fueling the decline of real journalism.

First they lie about Trump knowing about three Chinese balloons flying over the country and now this.

It’s fair to assume that if this happened before that the POTUS was briefed. Bad assumptions are not necessarily lies. This guy is correct, if the pentagon is keeping stuff like this from the POTUS, whether it was Trump or Biden, there is an issue.

Oh yes, a MAGA hack who was DNI for all of a couple months who retweets Newsmax is the guy in your corner, and TNT is the one who "so desperately" wants to believe something 🤣

The likely explanation for this is that in the past balloons originating from China have drifted over Alaska and into Canada, and identified to be legitimate meteorological balloons and no threat to national security. Hence they were not escalated because there was nothing to escalate.

This balloon appears and based on the previous observations the initial assessment is that it may well be the same. Upon further study of the balloon it's revealed to be more than its predecessors. By this time it's over populated - sparsely, but still populated - regions and the military recommends "radio silence" (for lack of a better phrase in 2023) around the balloon to minimize any potential leak and to shoot it down when it's over water. This would maybe improve chances of recovering some of the hardware intact, as I'd speculate that dropping into the ocean and being recovered would result in less physical damage than it hitting the ground, especially in some remote mountainous area where debris would be scattered.

This was never a "crisis." Our ships regularly sailing through international waters that China claims as its territory are bigger "crises" than this was. It's not nothing, but leave the pearl clutching to the culture wars.

The previous Chinese balloon incidents were reported spotted over Florida and Texas.

Hawaii and Guam.

It seems Trump administration was not briefed. Likely because the balloons were spotted and deemed not a threat by military. So why was this incident escalated by media and the public? Who does it serve?

It serves Republicans who are desperate to deflect from Biden's economic miracle.  Republicans would much rather be focusing on the economy but they'll take what they can get.
