I understand there's a chance the Pelosi trip to Taiwan could have gone catastrophically wrong. If her jet flies over South China Sea and the Chinese decide to shoot it down, we're in WWIII... However, at the end of the day I think it's all just a bunch of bluster. Pelosi makes some headlines supporting democracy, yada yada. China gets to huff and puff to support their side. Nobody is going to do anything that's going to shake the peace. It's a nothingburger.

The Chinese were never going to shoot down Pelosi’s aircraft or attack her in any way. They don’t want a direct confrontation with the US.

The risk here is that her visit speeds up the timeline for China’s invasion. The US military puts the date in 2027. Maybe the Chinese sees this as a provocation and looks for 2023 or 2024 instead.

And that would be a miscalculation.  There is a reason the US puts it at 2027.  They won’t be anywhere near ready till then.
