Nope.  You are not reading well, at least not what I posted on the topic.  I never made any comment about Davis coming back one way or the other.  My comment was about the idea that you listen to the player and the player only, which was your point.  My point is that players don't know what is actually best for them.  They know what pain they have.  They do not know long term ramifications for their injuries.  So, you don't listen to the player only.  You get all the information from the player, and the doctors/training staff.  Then make a decision based on all input.

Oh, and I didn't say anything about the Dolphins whatsoever.  Tua said he was fine.  Why else would he have been out there?   Seems he wasn't.  Players aren't always the best judges of their true condition.  Most players have been trained that if they can walk, they will want to play.  Sometimes, they need to be protected from themselves.  I think Davis is fine to be back, I'm not worried.  BUT... I don't think that the smart answer to any football injury situation is to listen only to the player.

In the case of Tua, he could very well have been fine and just suffered another injury just one week later. That didn't stop the NFL from making a knee-jerk reaction. Medically he was cleared. Derrick Burgess, Buckhalter, and Brooks are examples of players that have suffered similar injuries immediately after rehabbing and being cleared from a previous one. It can happen and not have anything to do with "rushing back" and everything to do with bad luck.

While I am saying that  IMO, a player should be trusted to make his own decision, I never stated that medical clearance should be completely disregarded. However, opinions vary. Some people get concussions playing football and doctors recommend not playing football anymore. Those same doctors would make that recommendation to every player after a concussion. Obviously, most players are going to ignore that recommendation.

Do you think Jason Kelce needed to be protected from himself? He played through a significant elbow injury last season wearing a brace.

Agreed, if you are cleared to play then you are cleared to play. Either you can play or you can't, how the hell would we know if a guy is " rushed back" or not anyways? Always cracks me up that some people seemed to think they know if someone is healthy enough to play or not from their couch lol.

That being said players do need to take advice from the doctors and coaches because some players feel like they need to play no matter what for fear of losing their jobs so in that case it can't be just the player that says he is ok.

Sometimes Kelce probably does need to be protected from himself, yes.

Point being, the over simplistic statement of, "a grown man said he's fine" as the only criteria for when a player goes into a game is archaic and inaccurate to the direction of the sport.  It is not up to just the athlete in the heat of the moment or the itch to get back on the field.  That's why there are (supposedly) independent doctors watching for players who show signs of concussions.  It's why the new concussion protocol is as extensive as it is (and likely should be more so), and it is why the the trainers don't just wave a smelling salt under the nose of the player and then ask how many fingers he's holding up, and as long as the reply is a number, not a color or a letter, they give them their helmet and throw them back out there.   We are well past the days of just listening to the athlete as the sole determiner of whether they are ready to go or not.

Your intent in the picture may have been to include the medical team, but it didn't mention it.  It merely said 'grown man', not in consultation with anyone, or anything.  I think Davis is fine to play today... but I also don't think the decision was left up to him either.  I think it was a coordinated effort, as it should be.  Besides, while Jordan may be huge, he's still just 22 years old.  And let's be honest very few 22 year olds are thinking beyond the end of their nose.

Did he play? I missed the game

Yes, but only a handful of plays.

Any update on his new injury? He seemed to limp off again.

Whatever happened wasn't too significant. He was out there on special teams on all the kicks like usual. The defense in total didn't have a high number of snaps yesterday because they were getting off the field for the most part.

He played 6 snaps.

Active yes.  Invisible yes.

He barely played. Only time I saw him was running after Tyrod Taylor in garbage time.

Are y’all referring to Davis? That’s a bit of a surprise if he’s taking special teams snaps other than field goal block.

Shouldn't the thread title be updated?

I expect Defensive Tackle Jordan Davis will get more snaps against the Chicago Bears, since running is really the only thing the Bears offense can do against teams.

I expect a heavy rotation as they keep guys fresh from chasing Fields all day.
