Posted November 29, 20222 yr This is a huge blow. No surgery required at this time. Quote Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson 'out indefinitely' Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson is out indefinitely after suffering a lacerated kidney, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. The injury will reportedly not require surgery and should allow CJGJ to return to the field this season. Testing is on-going, according to Pelissero, and there is no timetable currently. Gardner-Johnson, 24, was acquired by the Eagles from the New Orleans Saints right before the start of the season. In 11 games with Philadelphia, Gardner-Johnson was having a career-year, recording a career-high and NFL best six interceptions and 60 combined tackles. CJGJ posted this to his Instagram account on Monday evening. 23-year-old undrafted safety Reed Blankenship replaced Gardner-Johnson in Sunday's game against the Packers and was able to pick off Aaron Rodgers for his first career interception. https://www.audacy.com/94wip/sports/eagles/eagles-c-j-gardner-johnson-out-indefinitely-injury-kidney

November 29, 20222 yr Told schmoopie this about 10 mins ago. "Why did you tell me that, that made my blood run cold!!!!" Get well soon man.
November 29, 20222 yr Not good. I know most teams have injuries but we've got some key players missing at the moment. Hopefully they will be back before the play offs but who will be added to the list. We're lucky we've had a relatively healthy O Line. Once they start going down you're really in trouble.
November 29, 20222 yr Well this sucks. Safety and TE are the 2 positions on this team where we are the most thin in regards to the quality of the backup. It would figure we'd get injured there. Let's hope Blankenship steps up and plays with the confidence he showed Sunday night. Sometimes players play better when they're thrown in without notice vs. when they have all week to "think" about it. I don't have much faith in Wallace. Some folks are calling for Tartt to be signed...or even Malcolm Jenkins! But...I just can't see that being any better. Jenkins would be a nice story, but does he have much left?
November 29, 20222 yr Yikes that sounds painful. Dude has been a beast for us this year. Rest up, get ready for the playoff run and then recover in the offseason.
November 29, 20222 yr Honestly, he'll probably return sooner and closer to a true 100& with this than if there was some fracture or ligamentous injury as expected from watchin the injury.
November 29, 20222 yr Well hopefully he’s back in time for the playoff run. Securing the BYE is even more important if he’s right on the cusp of coming back at that point. Of course, I wouldn’t hate the idea of bringing in Malcolm Jenkins for the stretch run. Once CJGJ is back (hopefully in time for the playoffs) you can move Epps to the #3 safety spot if Jenkins shows that he is still productive.

I was thinking the same thing. Seems like the recovery period is somewhere between 2 and 6 weeks. He should at least be good for the playoffs.
November 29, 20222 yr Thankfully we are not going for the undefeated record. We may need some time to get guys fully healthy. It's a good extended look at Blankenship and hopefully we get CGJ back in time for the playoffs.
November 29, 20222 yr And this is yet another reason why I wasn’t buying into the hype so early. Things are still close in the NFC overall standings and NFC East standings. The injuries are starting to pile up which could really hurt this team. Especially at a position where they are not deep. Do you trust Wallace out there? Reed played well but it was only one game.
November 29, 20222 yr Hardest hitter on the team. Some Dawk- like hits out there. I appreciate this guy- glad you are ok and get well fast!!

He was up and down, to be honest, so the praise might be a little over-the-top and somewhat the product of selective memory. He made a great play on that INT but then looked kinda lost on the Watson TD, but ok, he's a rookie. Teams are going to test him, though, so he's really gotta get coached up, schemed well, and live in the film room for the next few weeks if he's not going to be a weekly liability.
