for certain crimes, and when guilt is either admitted or proven way beyond a shadow of doubt.

The problem lies in 'proven'

Proven to who? How? We have executed people for being out too late with brown skin. They were convicted in a court of law and later proved to be innocent.

No, you can't.

If Qanon has taught me anything, all people accused of being pedos are 100% guilty every time.

If I’m ever in a position to be called a pedo feel free to off me

No I say that in real life too

Tell that to the men whose baby momma accused them of abuse to get back at them or win custody disputes.

Ok. Got their numbers?

Being called a pedo and accused of it are two different things.

I don’t think you are getting the point. There have been and will continue to be, mostly men, accused of being a pedo by the mothers of their children. Those men never thought they’d be in the position to be called a pedi either.

For a guy who wants laser death traps at the border that's a boring answer.

Because the poll asked about citizens.

I am generally against it, but if it's strictly a yes or no question, the answer is yes.  I think it should be reserved for people who are a treat to society just by being alive: terrorists like Osama Bin Laden, mob bosses that still run their organizations and order hits on people from inside prison, prisoners who attack and try to kill guards, and so on.

Yea I’ll never be in a position for that to happen.

Meh, didn’t say I wanted them, just that they’d solve illegal immigration.

Also, lasers are expensive. Automated turrets can shoot cheap ammo. Got to make it cost efficient.

You've gone soft

Morally and spiritually, I wouldn't be able to sentence someone to death.

Sentencing someone to death is around 9 times more expensive than giving them a life sentence because of the appeals process, etc.  Giving someone a life sentence can be as bad (or worse for some) than executing them.  And the  money saved by avoiding the death penalty could go to the victim's family instead of spending it on the person that killed their loved one.

That said,  legally, I think it should be decided by the states and the people within the state.  If the majority of people in a state want the death penalty to be legal in their state, that's their decision to make.

I also wouldn't be against keeping the death penalty legal "In name only".  Basically, follow what some of the more moderate states do and use the death penalty as a true  life sentence; meaning they will never get out prison.

I'd go with public executions with next-of-kin deciding the manner of death, or even the choice of life in prison if next-of-kin prefers

There are certain parameters for appying the death penalty that would eliminate the possibility of executing and innocent person.

How many innocent people have actually been executed?  Not on just on death row, but executed? And how was it determined after they died that they were innocent?

One is too many.

Is there any proof that this actually happened?
