I hear ya, just want to point out that this guidance just came out, so depending on when you last talked to your doc, they may not have even known about it.

It's also not just the CDC or the advisory panel mentioned in the article, the American Cancer Society lists 45 on their site too.

45 actually didn’t just come out (as in like the past month).  I heard that a while ago.  I want to say possibly a year?  Anyway, was just at my doc in April when we had this quick discussion.  And of course the ACS is going to be proactive about screening at a younger age.  Again, docs ALWAYS take the side of caution.

I agree 100 percent. Just pointing out when standards are changed it sometimes takes a while for the new standards to be adopted by everyone, and that the new standards are also made by Dr's.  I would assume the docs on the boards that makes these decisions are among the best in their fields.

True dat.

Another example, while the CDC was talking about a 6 foot social distancing during COVID, it got to a point there the Director of our County’s Health Dept. said that 3 feet was actually fine.  He got trashed and abused on social media by parents, school boards, etc... literally like 3 weeks later the CDC comes out and says that 3 feet is now good.  He disagreed with the CDC and made his own recommendations.

Not quite analogous. We've got years of research and data dealing with colorectal cancer, and barely 14 months of the same with a novel coronavirus. But I agree that at the end of the day, these are merely guidelines and your physician's opinion can vary as they see fit.

I think it's the guidance from this advisory panel that's recent, possibly the CDC too. In any case, it's picking up steam and seems like it's a prudent thing to bring up and at least discuss with your doc if you're 45.

They are "guidelines" though, so each person might be different. I have a lot of cancer history in my family and I actually had polyps removed when I was younger.  At 42 I got a physical and check up and wanted to catch anything early. Dr said the 45 guideline and it's too early for colonoscopy but i can get one if i feel the need, so I waited on that. I did get bloodwork and prostate exam (all that was missing were white claws to make it a party). For me, I'm glad I checked things early and will continue to stay on top of it. You have to be your own advocate. My grandparents and Mom suffered from cancer and I don't want to go through the hell they did. Catching things early, plus healthy living for prevention

My initial point wasn't to go against your doctor's advice because you think you know better than them, or because you should be a hypochondriac, it's to be your own advocate, ask questions, and not to put off a recommended medical procedure that is one of the most commonly delayed among Americans and also has one of the most significant potential consequences.

Exactly, a family history makes you a great candidate for early screening.

This is fake news... In fact, this isn't even one of the US teams from the International Math Olympiad, which doesn't take place until July. I believe that this photo is from a 2017 chemistry olympiad.

The U.S. won the math olympiad in 2015, 2016, 2018, and U.S. and China tied in 2019.

China won in 2020, but the last time they won before that was 2014 (but they won a ton between 1989 and 2014- they won 19 titles to the US's 1 in that time frame- 1986 was the first time China competed)

So why are they holding the American flag?  Is it like trading jerseys after a game?

They're not citizens- they'll go back to China to beat us while we learn anti-racist algebra
