April 4, 20223 yr I really haven’t looked into electric cars at all, but do that have universal charging ports/plugs? Like, could you take a ford to a Tesla charger, for example? Also, is there a good comprehensive resource for finding charging stations along your route if you’re traveling? I’ve thought about getting a third car rather than putting gas in my truck all of the time for our local errands and weekend trips to visit family, but I have no idea whether EV would be practical for it or not. And I’ll admit this is all a pipe dream anyway because I am not really interested in having a $20k+ third car, but maybe in a few years when I can pick one up used…
April 4, 20223 yr Well I guess Biden was right, If you didn't vote for him, you aint black... (Guessing Thomas did not vote for Biden)

But they make adapters. As for the finding on your route, my (theoretical) mustang lets you put in the destination, calculates your estimated range and automatically routes you to an optimal station on your route. I imagine Tesla is the same.

The trip is a little over 400 miles, and we generally had to stop 2x at a Supercharger. Once is doable -- you get lunch while it charges. The second one is annoying. If we did it with one stop, the car was all but dead by the time we got to her parents. And no -- you don't get the same mileage while speeding on I-5. Now that I have the Taycan, her car is a hybrid so we can use that for any longer trips if need be. But we really never drive long distances. Yeah, any trip that approaches 500 miles one way, I'm not driving.
April 4, 20223 yr I think the thing that is going to hurt EV adoption is going to be the lack of cheap, used cars. EV batteries only have a limited life, and they are super expensive to replace. Even if you figured out a way to efficiently rehab and replace them, used cars are still going to run you at least $20K. This is really going to hurt poor people if they ban conventional gas-powered cars. Also, EV's go through tires like crazy.... Because they're so bottom heavy and have high acceleration rates, you really burn through tires.... crap like that is going to add up.

Also, you literally proved that trickle charges CAN work for most people since they drive no where near the range of the battery, let alone what could be charged on a level one charger over night, but keep focus on coffee to deflect from your constant fail

This one I thought was interesting. tl;dr: From Ford giving a warranty of 8 years/100k miles of the battery falls below 70 percent capacity. They didn’t pull that number out of thin air.

False Quote Federal Highway Administration data from 2019 indicates motorists in the U.S. drive an average of 39 miles per day. Enjoy your ignorance JT. May you continue to act informed on topics you are clueless about to give the rest of us a good laugh at your expense.

The charge rate depends on how empty your battery is, the lower the charge, the faster the charge rate. So in theory you can add 100 miles in 5-6 minutes 100 miles is nothing on a road trip. You may have to drive out of your way to get to the charger. Yes the whole 10 percent to 80 percent in as low as 45 minutes!!! You’re also suggested to not fully charge the vehicle because charging to 100 percent can damage/lessen the capacity of the battery.

Average motorist is everyone who drives. I'm in that equation. I drive like 20 miles every 2 days lol. My wife drives less than that. I worked in a factory at a blue collar job, with several hundred other people. Some live close. A lot drove 40 to 50 miles. Quite a few had two jobs. Like I said, out of touch. And that's good for you.

No arguments here. Big reason we are keeping our Explorer for the near future. Give the size (for all the baby s***) and gas tank, it's our long distance car.

So I guess we are now debating if it works for a poor who also drives 50 miles uphill both ways to work
April 4, 20223 yr You all are talking about EV's and I'm over here like, how can I make this my daily?

I can see doing that very occasionally. The dogs definitely matter. I personally hate sitting for long periods of time, and don't really enjoy driving either. My wife loves to drive.
