Things left out of the meme (and lets just pretend the #'s in it are accurate (they aren't)) 1) The cost of the panels easily offset the cost of what you would pay normally for electricity. You are paying a fraction of what you would normally pay per KW. And that's not taking into account overages can offset other costs and\or get paid back to you. Plus you can generate SRECs (depending on where you live) on top of that. I'm estimating we will be generating $600 annually in just SRECs. For people buying a new home and planning on being there a while (I.E. forever home), it makes sense. 2) If you don't want to purchase, there are lease options. I didn't go that route because it doesn't add value to the house and why poke holes in your roof for the racking for something "temporary". 3) I find it curious there is only the Federal tax credit for the cars, but not the state and utility credit. Also, what about the (now) 30% credit on the panels? Given the $70k number quoted, that's $21,000 back. (The credit is for sales, not labor) 4) Speaking of the EV, it's being charged with the discount electricity you are generating. And lets not forget the annual maintenance costs for an EV are much lower. To be fair, on point 4: The one knock is battery costs and potential life issues with them. The tech for batteries is coming along but could be a lot better. We debated internally if we should just switch to the 2023 Mach-E since they are rumored to have the new LFP batteries (Last longer, safer, etc). But because of the new act which would price the Mach-E's out of the tax credit ( ) and we've already been a one car family for almost the entire yet, we are sticking with the 2022 and hoping to have it by end of year. Oh and and
