Biggest problem with education is **** parents. By a landslide.

I had never attended a school board mtg prior to the pandemic. Since that started, I've attended more than I can count, and one thing is clear, almost half of the parents speaking during the public comments period treat schools like glorified daycare centers. They seem to think a school's primary purpose is to watch their kids while they're at work. The common refrain I kept hearing, and still do, is "These covid policies are ridiculous, why do we even care anymore? Isolating for 5 days is unacceptable when I have to go to work! How come you people don't understand this?"

My youngest graduated a decade ago, and it astounded me at the idiot parents who showed up to complain that the schools were not raising their kids and teaching them how to behave.

My opinion was unpopular with many of them, that it is the PARENTS' job to raise the kids and teach them to behave.

Even back then, the anti-science streak was strong with a lot of parents. Heart-breakingly sad.
