Schmoopie is the accountant so I'm going to butcher this but....

Yesterday we were on the phone with NJ in regards to our return.  We are non residents who do not work in new jersey, but we had to file with them because we bought, renovated and sold a property last year.  As part of the sale, they had to withhold capital gains taxes, which got logged into a system.  Then when we filed, we showed the $$$ we put into it to reduce the gains and get some (or all) of our withheld taxes back.  Problem is, the system that process taxes isn't hooked into whatever system the used to hold the details of our sale, so they automatically reject it.  (This is our assumption given the hoops we had to jump through).

So you have to call up and say "Hey, we sold this property on MM/DD/YYYY can you look it up to process our return".  Outside of being on hold for an hour interrupted by a few clarifying questions or being told the servers are slow today, they knew what the deal was and was fairly painless.  If you don't know to do that, tough luck, they are going to keep your $$$ that you are entitled to.  Which is kind of F'd up IMO  <_<

Our CPA told us ahead of time this would happen and how to handle it.  Schmoopie made the phone call because she knows this better than me being an accountant and all. Because she had to put up talking to our CPA AND be on the phone with NJ for an hour I took her out to dinner after

As opposed to say,

Declaring Trump as President for Life, tearing up the Constitution, imposing Martial law, installing a Christian Nationalist government and doing away with the Congress and Judiciary giving their powers to the Executive Branch ala project 2025. Deportation of millions of people and the execution of political rivals. God bless America.

Weird to leap from "it's alright to be gay" to "gay predator drone".

Imagine actually encountering gay people in the workplace.  The horror
