My guess is Slay wants an extension and the Eagles don't want to give it

The Eagles probably also want to consider an extension that is actually a pay cut to decrease his cap number.

damn...makes me even more angry about losing the super bowl. salaries were in place this past season.  not so much going forward.

f'n defensive holding call :nonono:

You do realize that practically all of the offense is in tact for next season.

If the Eagles get the right offer in a trade, the team will not hesitate to pull the trigger.  Slay is a star, but he's a star in decline on the wrong side of 30 and is not getting any younger.  If you pay attention, this team is on a youth movement.

My guess is they don't get the right offer

This was always going to happen, his cap number for next year is ridiculous, so he has to restructure at a lower level,  Slay wants to keep the same pay level Eagles say no dice and say he can seek trade

That cap number is insane. Howie really kicked the can down the road with Slay.

I think this is a good point, and fans need to prepare themselves for something.  A year ago, did anyone really expect them to win a franchise high 14 games and go to the Super Bowl and only lose to the Chiefs by 3 points?  They exceeded expectations which was great.  But we always knew they had this many free agents after this season, they have the 4 veteran linemen that need to have replacements planned (Jurgens for Kelce and Davis for Cox were already drafted).

You're right, the offense is basically set at most positions.  That core can compete for several years.  The defense is going to have a lot of change and this may be a 2 year process to replenish the defensive side.  This year you lose a bunch of free agents, retain who you can and draft who you can.  Then next year's offseason you continue to draft and sign players to add to it.

This upcoming season they have one of the toughest schedules, lost both coordinators and have all these roster changes.  Fans need to accept that this may be a step back year.  I still expect them to make the playoffs and at least win 1 playoff game.  But IMO if they don't make the NFCCG or the Super Bowl that's not a disaster given the circumstances.  You have to take the long term view that this could be a slight step back year and then the following season come back strong and make the SB and hopefully win this time.  If they do this right, they could be building a team that will be competitive for years and always be in that playoff conversation.  This just might be a bit of a transition year; not a losing season where they miss the playoffs, but maybe a brief step back.

The Eagles don’t want to pay him more (presumably) and the Eagles aren’t going to get Bradberry back (presumably) plus the Eagles didn’t promote the DB coach.

Seems to me that the Eagles are sending a message about how they felt about the 2022 secondary.

Instead of a trade do they get the same salary relief if he is a June cut? I'd sign JB and let Slay know he's a June cut if that is the case. He doesn't fit the press coverage of the new DC from what was reported.

The Secondary and D Line might be a mess next season.

It's why winning the SB last season was so damn important. UGH. Everything was setup perfectly.

Slay will be a post June 1st cap cut which allows the Eagles to spread the dead money and get cap relief for this season. I highly doubt the trade option is a legit possibility. That money can possibly be used to bring back CJGJ or Bradbury. At 32 and after a bad 2nd half of 2022 it's not worth extending him and tying up even more future money. It's a great CB draft and the Birds need to use that.

If they do this right, they can be a SB contender again.  Maybe not this season, but the following season with additions to the defense to balance out the fairly well stacked offense and be right back in it.

I actually think the D-Line will still be really good. I think there is a reasonable chance of Hargrave coming back and if not I reckon they will bring in a decent DT in free agency to replace him. Davis should take a step up and we still have Williams. Current edge rotation is Reddick, Sweat, Graham and Barnett. That’s pretty good.

The secondary could be a mess though I agree.

We're never going to find a trade partner for a 32 year old CB with a cap hit of $26M.  Guessing we'll release him using a post June 1 designation to avoid taking a $22M dead money hit to this year's cap.  Now we need to fill all 4 starting spots in the secondary.  But something tells me the money we save will be used to re-sign CJGJ.

He's 32, he's going to cost a bomb and he wants more money. So yeah I think trading him might be for the best. And I say that being a huge fan of Slay. But ultimately we could probably bring back Bradberry and a S or LB if we were to let him go.

So let me get this trade, Bradbury leaves in FA, and We trade Slay and have Zero CB going into next season with any experience. Great plan.

This doesn't read like the Eagles want rid of him.  He wants to remain an Eagle and wants a contract extension per one of the reports.  Sounds like both sides want to make a deal and they just are negotiating.

Plus if Slay is gone then maybe Bradberry is back, and Blankenship is better than Epps so it's not that much doom and gloom, especially if they land a top CB prospect at the #10 pick.

But a lot is going to happen in the next week or so, will be interesting.

Those 2 tweets are like 20 minutes apart.  Perfect example that these media guys HAVE NO CLUE.  He saw a tweet from an ESPN reporter - like we all did - and then tweeted he's as good as gone.  Yes it's just his opinion.  But these "journalists" are just reacting to news like a fan.  Then they're scouring Twitter and reading other reactions, and then following up to change their mind.

This is exactly why I tell guys like @EazyEaglez to not get worked up about "rumors" and "vibes" from media when they often have no idea what they're talking about.

Like I’ve mentioned before the news coming out of Philly hasn’t been all that great. With that being the case there’s no way Slay is coming back to that cap number regardless.

It’s not ideal but KC just won a SB and 3 out of there top 4 corners were rookies.

There is no actual news yet though.  It's been rumors and speculation.  The roster update thread has the actual news results which so far are signing BG and restructuring Elliot.
