Posted April 4, 20232 yr Still a few weeks away from our annual master of the draft pickem i alter rules a little each year based on our draft situation to keep things interesting if anyone has thoughts or constructive ideas I’d really like to hear them and will consider them* drop em here. Also general competition talk and showing off about how you’ve won in the past is cool too. *all ideas will be considered except HazletonEagle’s 🤣
April 4, 20232 yr Here's a few. Not sure I love them all but will throw them out for discussion Maybe a trade up, trade down or stay for each of the 1's. Each worth a pt Guess Total number of picks made each day for a 1pt Definitely like the lock idea for an extra point. Maybe an extra bonus point or 2 if you nail both 1st rd picks
April 4, 20232 yr A side prediction like a survivors pool would be fun. "What player with an ESPN top 31 ranking won’t go in the first round”, then do that for each round, increasing it by 1 player. So it goes from "Which 2 players with a top 63 ranking won’t be taken by the end of the 2nd round,” to eventually "Which 7 players with a top 259 ranking won’t be drafted by the end of the 7th round?”

Maybe an extra bonus point or 2 if you nail both 1st rd picks Love the trade up etc for each pick, but maybe only for the first round. So it would look like Pick 10 - trade down. Pick 30 - Stay put. Don't love the guess the total number of picks made, particularly as Howie moves around so much. Agree Lock is a good idea, but feel bonus points for nailing both picks could end the competition pretty early as would be hard to catch up after! Maybe an extra lock for each pick? Gives players the options of playing it safe and going for two guys who could be at 10 or trying to nail both picks in the first round.
April 4, 20232 yr @OCEaglefan Funny seeing this thread ... I literally was just thinking this morning on my commute to work to touch base with you to inquire about the Master of the Draft competition and if you had any early thoughts on what the format may be like since we have 2 picks on day 1, the usual number of picks on day 2, then nothing until round 7 on day 3 (at least, for now ... I think that is highly likely to change).
April 15, 20232 yr Eureka!! More guesses. Something like 20 1st round. 25 day 2. 30 day 3? With confidence points. Day 1 example: 1. Witherspoon 20 CP 2. Nolan Smith. 19 CP . . . . . . 20. Bijan Robinson 1 CP Doesn't matter if there are trades. Doesn't matter if it's our first 1st rounder or 2nd first rounder. You can still do a bonus for a Lock being correct. Everyone stays in for all 3 days. Most points at the end of the draft is the master of the draft. Boom.
April 16, 20232 yr 2017 Master of the Draft runner-up checking in here, looking to win the whole thing this time around 😁 I actually like the way it is currently run for the most part, one point for correct players, a bonus point for a lock, need to get at least 1 pick right to move on to the next day, etc... Some suggestions though: One extra point for trade up or trade down for each day that you can use in lieu of a player selection, instead of in addition to allotted guesses. Let's say for example, we get 6 entries for Day 1, you can use 5 on players and one on trade up/trade for a bonus, or if you feel strongly think we'll stay put and can predict both pick can put down 6 names and roll with that. This forces one to strategize which one feels is more likely, guessing a trade direction correctly versus securing multiple correct selections. Not crazy about guessing total amount of picks, that's gonna be a huge question mark with how much Howie moves around. Also not a big fan about the bonus point for both first round picks correct like ManchesterEagle mentioned, it would create a big margin and pretty much end things in Day 1. For tie-breakers, I think it would be interesting if later round picks held more weight, since that's when you get into the more obscure prospects and I'd argue takes a bit more skill (and not because I'm salty of how the tiebreaker in 2017 went down 😂).

He comes to the EMB about once a year to run this contest. In between this year's post and next year's post he can make the calculations.
April 17, 20232 yr I would propose a two-tiered approach to the first round. You get six (or eight) guesses (perhaps also a trade-up or trade-down guess) on what will be done with the tenth pick...and also get six (or eight) guesses for what happens at thirty, again also allowing a trade up or down guess on THAT pick. One point for correct guesses and a bonus third point if you get them both correct. The rest of the draft follows traditional rules.
