Our offense is deep. I got a feeling that LB will also be either traded for or signed at a later date. Howie is not done yet.

Going to have to shoot it out with the likes of KC. We had possibly the best defensive rooster possible and mostly healthy last year and they still lost.

Tommy just said that Dean is the reason the team has not been very active in signing LBs. That may be true, but the team needs back-up and depth for this season and beyond. The new TE could be the piece to put 2 receiving TEs in the line-up. That would be difficult for the defense to cover with all the receiving options on the field. The coaches have to design plays to use our weapons effectively.

If only that "rooster" would have made a single big play (a sack, a turnover, or even a second half stop in that game). The offense made a couple mistakes, but clearly kept them in the game. On defense, KC had 2 sacks and a turnover. On special teams, they had a 65 yard punt return. Their offense averaged 6.1 yards per carry against us and they completed 78% of their passes against us. Mahomes busted a 26 yard run against us on a bum ankle. Our WRs were targeted 21 times and caught 16 passes for 215 yards and 1 TD. We averaged 3.6 ypc on 32 runs for 115 yards (compared to KC's 158 on 26 carries (which included 2 kneel downs for -7 yards)) ... Yet somehow, this falls on our WRs? Sorry ... not buying it. I know everybody wants to make a big deal about 1 pass that Watkins didn't catch, but that statistically wasn't even a "drop" as much as the critics wish it was. The defender was in position to contest the catch. It was an incomplete pass. I would have loved for it to have been caught but it wasn't. It simply wasn't as easy a play to make as people are pretending it was. Regardless, that was just one play where the outcome was an incomplete pass.

The ball was placed perfectly and it hit him right in the middle of both of his hands. He was stretched out and it's not a routine catch, but it's a catch a professional WR should make 10 out of 10 times. Saying it wasn't even a drop is laughable and factually incorrect.

We need a WR3 with some more grit . Preferably one that's not a pop tart and can make contested catches over the middle. There's always room to improve the position I don't care what excuse folks make. The more competition the better. Iron sharpens iron. Let the best WR3 win type deal! Worst case scenario we have a damn good WR4 :)

A "drop" statistic is based on a pass not being contested. The defender had his hands on the receiver --- PI or not PI, it doesn't matter that's the same as playing the ball in the outcome. So when they view the play, they don't credit the WR with a drop because of the action of the defender on that play. On top of that, drops aren't credited to the receiver when they are diving to make a catch. That would be considered an exceptional catch. "10 out of 10 times" is a joke. I see much easier passes get (actually and factually) dropped by every WR that ever played football. https://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/45689/what-constitutes-a-dropped-pass If you want to argue that Watkins could have run the route better, then you may have a case. It seemed to me Hurts had to unload that pass just a tad early because of the defender in his face and Watkins may have been expecting it just a tad later so he hit his jets late in the route and had to dive at the end. If you want to argue that Watkins used bad technique, then you may agree with Quez on that. He said he showed his hands too early and tipped off the defender. He feels he should have used "late hands" like AJ Brown always tries to do in coverage. But if you're going to double down that this was "a drop" then you simply don't understand what a drop is. You admitted it wasn't a routine catch. That alone disqualifies it as a "drop." 5 hours ago, judunno said: No one makes fun of Rooster Cogburn! We need a WR3 with some more grit . I disagree that what we saw late last season from Watkins defines him as a player. I saw him catch contested passes routinely one season earlier. Why do we forgive Hurts for playing cautious in week 17 after two weeks of rest for a shoulder strain between grade 1 and grade 2, but completely let into Watkins who had a genuine grade 2 shoulder strain and wasn't given any games off to rest, just because he was tentative on a few plays? Don't twist this into some argument where I'm knocking Hurts, because I'm not. I just don't understand why Watkins' post injury play is unforgivable to some. To me, it's understandable. I was disappointed in some of the mistakes he made during that time, but am still confident he'll rebound. We're talking about a young player here. We brought in one low cost FA to compete for playing time at WR and didn't draft a single WR. It seems to me that neither the coaches nor the organization have lost faith in Watkins at this time. Why is that? 5 hours ago, judunno said: He was touched by the DB so not fair... not fair. It has nothing to do with "fair." Pretty much every play in football has at least 1 person somewhere getting away with something. That's football. But statistics do have parameters that must be met. DBs don't intercept or bat down passes on every play. All they have to do is enough to effect the outcome.

Your defending this guy like he's a stud or something. Point is everyone wants competition and better play out of the WR3 position. If it's Quez and he steps up so be it. If not bump his ass down the WR4 and let someone else get those few targets that a WR3 would get. Ball can only go around to so many people so with limited opportunities gotta make them count. I expect now that we have a legitimate pass catching RB those targets will be even more limited. Don't worry seems like the staff likes Quez so he'll get his shot.

Just because a player has a mediocre or below par stretch does not mean that player has peaked or something and it's only downhill from here. The hope is, especially with young players, that they learn from those moments and become better players through hard work and motivation. For many reasons, I'm really looking forward to training camp and preseason this year. I want to see who improved. I want to see how all the new arrivals fit in. I want to see who pushes and who gets pushed.

Sounds good but when you have a defense that can't stop the other team from scoring, it doesn't make much of a difference in terms of the margin of the score. Still a tight game where mistakes would be even more so amplified because of the nature of a ball control offense. In the end the defense still has to make stops. How are you going to have a RB close a game if you're not winning. Eagles won the TOP in the SB and still lost. This is a different era... gotta put up the points against teams like KC. If it's any other team sure you may get away with a ball control attack. For what it matters I think the RBs this year are better than last years.

A little TOP in the second half and the Eagles win, no, the jackarses had two many punts because they couldn't sustain drives via the pass. Oh, I forgot, the running game is not important in today's game, that's why the RB position has been devalued. Like I said, Howie should take advantage of that silliness instead of being a group thinker.
