May 24, 20232 yr Quote Miami-Dade school officials defended their actions and said they haven't banned the book. "No literature (books or poem) has been banned or removed," the district said in a statement. "It was determined at the school that 'The Hill We Climb' is better suited for middle school students and, it was shelved in the middle school section of the media center. The book remains available in the media center." https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/education/2023/05/23/amanda-gorman-poem-banned-florida-school/70250148007/

May 24, 20232 yr This, apparently, is the complaint form filed by a parent that was actually heeded by the district. Oprah! If I didn't know any better, I'd say the district mistook satire for a legitimate complaint.

Yeah I don't know - I was just posting that part to show that it wasn't banned, at least not according to the school. Reading through it, it may be a bit deep for kids that young to understand, but it's not offensive

Better move it out of the elementary school section just to play it safe.

May 24, 20232 yr Here's an index of what is banned where. They aren't all Florida (my mistake). Handmaid's Tale (which my wife had to read in her all girl's catholic high school back in the day) seems pretty universal in red states. https://pen.org/index-of-school-book-bans-2022/
