May 10, 20241 yr Author They played for about 2:55, but they started at around 8:15 pm so, even though we had a 90 minute drive home after the show we were still home before 1:00 am. Dave's a wonder of nature. No idea how he does it and I can't imagine he'll be able to keep doing it, with the energy he does, for a whole lot longer. Last night's setlist: Bridge Burning No Son of Mine Rescued The Pretender Times Like These La Dee Da Breakout Medicine at Midnight Walk Guitar Solo / Sabotage / Keyboard Solo / Blitzkrieg Bop / March of the Pigs My Hero (Dedicated to Steve Albini; Dave solo into full band) The Sky Is a Neighborhood Learn to Fly Arlandria These Days Shame Shame All My Life Nothing at All (with snippets of The Beatles' "Blackbird" and "I'll Stick Around") The Glass Monkey Wrench (with snippet of Led Zeppelin’s "Rock and Roll”) Aurora Best of You Encore: The Teacher Everlong

Puddles Pity Party can freaking sing. Coheed and Cambria, at least the 4 songs or so I saw, were not terrible. I may have actually enjoyed a song or two. Primus….is Primus. Les is still the man. Great venue. Small, 5000 person amphitheater in downtown Charlotte. Radar showed severe storms bearing down on us the whole time, but we lucked out and just got rained on for about 20 minutes. Could’ve been much worse. Btw, Primus sucks. I know this because I’ve seen them many times before, and because the F’ing moron behind us yelled it 347 times during their set.
August 20, 20241 yr Saw Steve Winwood and the Doobie Brothers a couple of weeks ago. SW still great - Not really a DB fan. Still

Best friend asked if I wanted to go down to Raleigh to see the Doobies with his cousin and a couple girls his cousin knew. Sure, why not, except his cousin was driving, and drove a pickup, which meant we'd all be riding in the pickup bed all the way to Raleigh. Oh well, we were young and dumb and going to live forever so what the hell. Drinking all the way to Raleigh, we stopped off on the side of the highway to pee and one of the girls, who was a smoke show but was clinically insane, fell into a thicket of thorns and got all torn up. Mission change to finding a hospital for her on the way to the concert. Come to find out the cousin, who was driving, had been drinking too and is an angry drunk. Next thing we know we're speeding through a minority neighborhood and that idiot's yelling at people on the street. Slams on the brakes, jumps out, and starts getting into it with a gang on a front porch. Thankfully the cops quickly show up and arrest him, but he's got the keys, the gang's now staring the rest of us down and the cops tell us they're leaving and we're walking out of there. This was during the OJ Simpson riots, and I told the cops no way in hell they were leaving us there, so they at least agree to call an ambulance for the girl who was bleeding profusely from various gashes all over her body, but the rest of us are SOL, so we call a taxi to take us to the hospital to meet her. Get to the hospital and she's staggering around outside after refusing treatment, and, with no car, we decide give up on the concert and just find a hotel. Find a hotel for the night, and things go markedly better for the rest of the night when the crazy smoke show decides she want to share my bed. Wake up the next morning, call everyone we know, can't find anyone to come get us. Find out from my buddy that his cousin has already been released from jail and is back home. Lucky him. We start walking towards home from Raleigh and a couple of guys in a work van pick us up and tell us they can take us as far as Durham. Get to a KFC in Durham and go inside to figure out what to do next. I finally decide that the only way we're getting home is if I bite the bullet and call my parents to ask them to come get us. So I'm standing there on a payphone outside of a KFC on the outskirts of Durham, shamefully talking to my parents when suddenly, out of nowhere, the cousin who got arrested and left us stranded sees me and comes squealing into the parking lot. I still have no idea how he found us because we were 30 minutes away from the last time we'd talked to anyone and no one had any idea where we were going. We finally made it home. I've still never seen the Doobies live. Good times.

I found out years later that the crazy smoke show that I was with got hit and killed by a car while walking along a highway. Tragic end to a troubled life (at least she had the fleeting moments of happiness with me).

Steve Winwood is still fabulous though.
