Here are all the states where you have to register as a Democrat to ...

I switched to Republican to vote for Ron Paul and Rand Paul in 2008,2012 and 2016. Switched back to Libertarian the day after the 2016 PA Primary

Yeah -- the issue in CA is the Presidential primaries are closed.

If Biden dropped out, and it was going to be a new Democrat vs. Trump, I'd change to Democrat to vote for the most moderate option in the Dem primary. Stop an insane choice like Sanders, Warren, etc.

I'm actually debating switching to vote for RFK Jr

I am a registered Republican - but I have not - nor would I ever - have voted for the Orange Game Show Host.

We should take it a step further and allow anyone to be able to vote in both primaries. I'd be curious if we'd get less polarizing candidates under such a system in all states.

That sounds about right

From Washington's Farewell address.  Our founding fathers were much more astute than many give them credit for:

No - because the Leftist wingnut activists and Unions will mobilize their professional voters to sabotage things.

Is there a single viable Democratic candidate in the mold of Ed Rendell or Bill Clinton that doesn't lean to the far left?  How can a Dem without leftist policies even secure the nomination today?

I am a strong proponent of eliminating primary elections completely and going back to having the conventions choose the nominees. Primaries elevate the fringes of both parties, because only the true nutbags come out to vote. It's how you get Christine O'Donnell over Mike Castle in DE in 2010 -- that lost a Senate seat for the GOP and basically turned DE solidly blue. Allowing the extreme of each party to select candidates is a disaster.

No one is running right now. If it were opened up, someone like Jared Polis would be fine.

It's like he was describing Trump word for word, except for the cunning and ambitious part.

It's almost like you were asleep for the 4 years when Donald Trump was elected as leader of the free world.

I have not, nor would I ever register with a party.

Especially either face of our current one party system.

That's why I think allowing every voter to be able to vote in both primaries might balance things out a bit. As for increasing turnout and tamping down the sway of the fringes, make it more accessible just like we do in the general with early voting, mail-in ballots, etc. That would require a coordination among all or most states to hold primaries in synch, like a super duper Tuesday or the like, so it'll never actually happen, but I just wonder if it would result in less ishy candidates over time.

Joe Biden.

Oh really, if Trump secured the reins of power so tightly, why was most of the federal government working against him?

He's going to be under 4 indictments, was found liable for rape in a civil trial, incited a riot, and STILL will be the nominee for the GQP, and you're gonna sit there and act like he's got no control over the party whatsoever.

Did you miss the part where he said he wasn't cunning?  He failed at nearly everything he tried to do in office.

Because he's an imbecile.

I joined the Young Republicans Club, which just happened to be an after hours club when I worked 2nd shift. Thought of going independent but then couldn’t vote in primaries.

Independent - 44 years.
