Remember when fans panicked last year week 1 because they were rusty & barely beat the Lions in an ugly game?

True, but there were no Superbowl expectations last season like there is this season. Play calling was iffy and with the Pats OLine having 3 starters out, the pressure we all expect this front 7 to generate wasn't there for the majority of the game. I'm not worried, but I can definitely see why others would be.

Yeah, but last we got to play the Vikings the very next game ...

Patriots figured the eagles out. Hopefully no one else copies the homework

The offensive play calling was miserable.  We have Brown, Smith, Watkins, and Goedert.  Can these guys not beat the opposing secondary?  It wasn't just that we didn't get enough passes down the field.  It was that we didn't even try enough.  Way too many 1-yard passes.  Not nearly enough deep routes or mid-range crossing routes.  When it's 3rd & 6, we should be trying slant routes.  Can Hurts not throw accurate slant routes?  Other QBs can.  A Hurts run, when it was exactly what they were expecting, has no chance.

Both the gameplanning and the in-game playcalling were terrible.  We were lucky to win this one.

If the game planning and playcalling aren't better, we'll be 1-1 after Thursday.

I don’t know the stats but it felt like they ran rpo like 70% of the time and it wasn’t working.  When they ditched that and went more conventional they started moving the ball more consistently.  You’re not going to beat Bill with a high school offense, you’re just not.  And if they don’t scheme up a more traditional run game, they won’t go far.  RPO has its place. But not every run has to be with the back lined up on hurts hip. And also, gainwell, yeah that’s all he really can do.  They should have switched to a more traditional run scheme and started hitting swift off tackle.  They’re going to absolutely waste swift.  The RPO is not his style at all.  Honestly the dressed backs should be penny, swift, as the 1-2 punch and gainwell is the  change of pace back.  This is clear as day.

Well, that was tough. I‘ve seen some light and shadow- this game wasn‘t at all what I expected. Offense struggled a lot while the new defense looked good.

I know, most aren‘t happy with the defensive performance but I was. We got an important pick, almost another. DL didn‘t get many sacks but won the game when they had to.

When the D is on the field all the time because O can’t get a first down obviously things can’t look perfect - especially on the road with rusty starters and a new coordinator. They will be very good again this year. What I liked most: Carter and S.Brown playing like starters right away.

Hurts was determined not to take too many risks and that made him look pedestrian at times. A huge hit led to that fumble (still a very rare occurence for him), the deep balls were thrown well enough but weren’t caught this time.. That’s not how things will look in the coming games. I’m not even concerned yet.

We got the win, and while I don’t think that is all that matters there were quite a few things to like in this too. We can kick it from far away. We make big plays when we need to. Some real promise with the rookies.. Jobe was nice too.

We did know that our weaknesses are primarily at Safety and LB and that showed. But if this team gets rolling the opponent better watches out.

Didn’t most if you say it’s bad to peak too early? Let the Cowboys do that. We need to win against ‘easier’ opposition before the tough stretch after the buy.

It was ugly and it was not good but it was a win! And week one that’s what matters. I thought it was going to be close just because defense tends to be ahead early in the year and they have a good defense. We found a way to win despite trying to lose whereas Kansas, Seattle and Cincinnati all lost.

People wanting to draft a new QB because we didn't look superbowl ready in early September.

Difference being the team still put up 38 points against a good team last year.

This year they let Mac Jones have a 10/10 stretch with 2 TDs.

But yes, week 1. Happens all of the time. Look at the Bengals. Just need a better effort going forward, because damn.

Who knows, maybe just like the Lions win last year, the win will look a lot more impressive at the end of the season and we will be saying wow, the Pats are actually pretry good, and we beat them on the road

I think we will see him start from now on, especially w the injury to Fletcher. Will help the D a lot. When the add Nolan, it will be crazy.

did smith get any snaps?

We couldn't pass in the first half because of the rain. I think the Pats were outcoached in the 2nd half. Sure, much of it looked like we're going to lose. Being one score away from a loss is unacceptable. The other teams are no less rusty. But ultimately, the outcome seemed inevitable once it was over.

I do think the one difference is their strength is defense and ours is offense. And whilst I’m not excusing a very poor performance it does tend to be that offenses start slower in the year.

Luckily they had no defense against Jake Elliott.

And decided to turn the ball over on back to back plays.

I know there’s the whole a win is a win thought process. I also get they might look rusty since they haven’t played together. With that being the case the offense really needs to get in sync as soon as possible. The offensive line did not dominate at all. The backs did not look as dynamic as we expected. Hurts looked extremely conservative throwing the ball today, but you could tell he was feeling a lot of pressure from the Patriots defense. Dean in his first action has already gotten hurt. The offense never seemed to make adjustments. They did enough to escape NE and that matters for sure, but they better get it together real soon, because game two is up real soon.

As I've said before, Hurts doesn't read the field as Tony Romo pointed out on back to back plays when he missed a wide open Goedert for TDs, his mind is made up as to who he'll be throwing to covered or not before the ball is snapped......that's elementary, it's time for him to grow in that area.

Yeah I’m not ready to condemn Hurts based off one game especially since he definitely felt pressure out there, but he did miss some guys and looked very conservative overall. Coaches needed to make adjustments to what Belicheat was doing out there.

I felt like the coaches kind of bungled this one a little. The Patriots schemed to get the ball out of their quarterback’s hands as quickly as possible to avoid that rush. When the Eagles got pressure he looked real pedestrian. For Hurts I think the Patriots did a good job of mixing coverages, and applying enough pressure to keep him uncomfortable in the pocket. Even on the RPO runs he was mostly making the wrong choice. In the past this seemed like a game the Eagles would have let slip by and lose but they didn’t. They held on and won.

I don’t thinks it’s panicking to point out some of the issues we saw in this one. There was some troubling stuff we saw today and they better fix that stuff quickly. I honestly didn’t expect this to be a blowout game. I actually thought this was a tough spot for the Eagles to have to go on the road and face the Pats on Brady night. I give them a ton of credit coming out of this game with a win especially when you consider this was a late game on a short week! Thanks for nothing there NFL…. Still that doesn’t mean we should ignore the shaky stuff we saw. The need to clean it up and quickly.
