That is not what happened.  Hurts was having a bad day. He was failing to find open receivers, and failing to hit some of those he did see.  And the Vikings were prepared for him running, so he wasn't having any success there either.  Hurts didn't throw less because the running game was working.  That's backwards.  We adjusted our gameplan and relied more on the run because Hurts wasn't making the passing game work.  The running game bailed out the offense when the passing game struggled.

So you don't think there was an improvement from last week in the air?

It's clear that the Eagles passing game struggles against this particular defensive scheme. Is this called the Tampa 2?

Seems to me they at times they rush with 6 players or drop 5-6-7 players into coverage. With 5-7 players in Zone is something Hurts struggles with and the O coordinator is not changing routes to get players open. Slants, Crossing Routes and Dig routes would seem to be the best option.

Seems like everything is boom or bust. Not a lot of routes where guys are just finding open spots in zones. Not sure if this is on the coaches or Hurts just not trusting what he sees out there. He’s taking a lot of hits early and I think it’s pretty inexcusable to get sacked from a three man line. I don’t think this is all on Hurts either. The play calling was suspect and the pass blocking has been poor. Mialata really hasn’t played well so far this year. I once again think the Eagles were kind of given a raw deal here. Two teams in less than a week. Honestly both teams were sloppy yesterday, because the Vikings couldn’t even hold onto the football. Both teams were forced to game plan for multiple teams in one week. The Vikings lost two games because of it and the Eagles have struggled in both victories. I don’t think the Eagles will fully be ready until about October. It’s still good they got two wins during a time where they’re still trying to get back into form. If we are into October and the offense is still playing like this I might start getting really concerned.

I do think that there was an improvement, but both Hurts and the play-calling are a long way from where they were last year.  Last week, we could say that the rain impacted things and also that Belichick is just good.  We don't have that excuse this week.  It's early in the season, and last season started out a little rough too.  But still...  There's a long way to go, and a ton of improvement needed if the Eagles even want to win the division.

Why?

Because captains have their sheeeiiit together. This guy cries when he doesn't get the ball. That's NOT what captains do- at all.

Through 2 games, this team has A LOT to work on...

Game plan and play-calling - Need to give Johnson some time as he learns, but other than when they just started running the ball last night, it's been hard to figure out what they are trying to do on O...initial plan of attack, etc. They have looked like they haven't had a "plan" of attack.

Hurts' decision-making has regressed.  Bad decisions on RPOs, took a really bad sack last night that took us out of FG range late in the game, is dropping his eyes early and looking to run, etc.  Not sure if he's "pressing" or just discombobulation with the new OC calling plays.  But, something is off with him.

The defense just can't cover anyone over the middle of the field and short/intermediate areas.  There is always a receiver wide the F open.

We were hugely lucky with the Justin Jefferson fumble and getting the touchback.  Terrible rule, but we were really lucky there.  Also fortunate to get the turnovers we did.

2 weeks in a row we faced an OL with key injuries and our vaunted DL can't take advantage (some of that is thanks to receivers running free almost immediately after the ball is snapped).

Our vaunted OL seems a little leaky in pass protection too.

I see Hurts and Johnson having 2 problems 1) they need to come to the conclusion that the RPO ain't gonna work this year, teams simply aren't going to let his running beat them, take advantage of that, fake the RPO and pass off of it, the middle of the field should be wide open open 2) tunnel vision/predetermining who the ball is going to without knowing where your other options are, I mean, you have more than 2 WRs on the team, find them, he did that same elementary sheet last year and teams have caught on to it, they know he mainly throws to Brown or Smith.....it ain't gonna work this year

As for Stoutland, he needs to let his boys know their pass protection has been miserable and it's effecting Hurts' performance

As for Desai 4 DL, 1 LB, and 6 DB, we cannot have teams passing on us with such ease.

Big time competitors/leaders do it all of the time. He wasn't wrong that's for sure. After watching some of the analyst video I could understand his frustrations. They couldn't cover him. Jalen kept locking on to his pre-snap reads.

It's Week 2 with new OC still figuring out that we have a dominant running game. As long as they improve a little bit every week and still get the W we're on our way to another great season. You want them peaking late in the season not in Week 1 and Week 2. It's awesome that they are getting looks that they have to adjust for now then at the end of the season when every game could be a one and done.

I don’t see the Eagles having 4 legit backs. I think they have one legit guy who has had a lot of injury issues. How ironic is it everyone was worried about Swift when it’s been Gainwell and Scott going down? Also is it just me or does Penny just looked cooked? No burst when he ran, and late on his pass block. Everyone thought the backs were set, but in reality that position looks very troubling if Swift goes down for any extended period of time.

I'm not the least bit concerned about the RB room. Last night, we saw Swift take advantage of an opportunity. He was heavily motivated playing for his favorite team with a lot of friends and family in attendance. No matter who the guy is, that's a lot of touches. Great game for him --- the spark he provided was huge. He deserves to be considered the lead back in the room. One game is still a small sample and we may need see more games like that to really know what we have. But as a runner he looked even better than Sanders in any game last year and that's coming from a fan that really liked Sanders.

Boston Scott has played well too. He suffered a concussion which is something you can't really hold against players in this sport. It's almost guaranteed to happen to everybody at some point and players aren't allowed to go back in the game like the old days. I'll be shocked if he isn't cleared for the next game. I have nothing against Gainwell. He can run, catch, and block (just like Scott). He didn't have a standout week 1 performance, but that O-line had one of their worst games since the lines we used in 2020. They were much better Thursday night. Swift had a couple unimpressive touches in week 1, so it seems strange to write too much into Penny's few touches yesterday. Both Swift and Penny had some nice runs in preseason so we probably shouldn't overreact to either of their 1st regular season game performances where they hardly touched the ball.

I'm not sure what "legit" means to you, but I think we can have success with any of the 4 RBs on our roster. Through two games, Swift has stood out the most and I'm all for giving him the lion's share (no pun intended) of the workload.

Captains don't get all upset and create a scene on the sidelines and refuse to talk to reporters afterwards- THATS what I am saying. No matter how upset they are. Captains stay calm and talk it over, not freak out on the sidelines.

But he may have been told not to speak to reporters?

Nah, he REFUSED to speak with reporters. I'll have to find the link. Captains don't do garbage like that. Look, I still love me some Brown, but he has to grow up.

Ah ok well yeah if that’s the case then yeah that’s wrong and he needs to grow up. The team won. His day and games will come.

Nothing ever concerns you especially the play or performances of mediocre players. Gainwell has yet to prove he’s an every down back. Swift, and Penny has had injuries for much of their NFL careers. Scott is not a guy they can rely on to be a 15-20 plus guy. These guys are mostly components. "Legit” to me means a guy a guy a can count on week in and week out to be there and perform well. I can see legit to you means he made the roster.

You've been watching this game long enough to know that this happens all of the time in the heat of the battle. Think of a great player that was a captain particularly QB and you'll see sideline outbursts. The great Tom Brady did it on numerous occasions arguing with coaches for example. (Mahomes as well) So spare me with your 'calm' rhetoric

He hasn't been given the opportunity. Miles Sanders didn't prove it until his 4th year when he was given that role as "the guy."

Yep. Penny has missed a significant amount of games. Swift is pretty much right there among the normal for NFL players (10 games missed through 3 seasons). If Penny was our de facto RB1, his injury history would be a little concerning. But at this point, it looks like he is currently RB4. Given his ability with the ball, that means there are 3 RBs the coaches prefer over him on the roster. So that injury concern is not very important to me. But it's understandable that some people make mountains out of mole hills and need little things to complain or worry about.

While I do believe players don't make NFL rosters if they aren't one of the top 1700 eligible players in the world, there is a big difference between the best player at a position and the worst, within the league. But when you start bringing in words like "legit" or "elite" there needs to be some standard clarification of the label. Legit, to me means: a player that can perform his role and help his team win games. We saw Gainwell do that in the most important games last year (playoffs). We saw Penny help Seattle win games when he was healthy. We saw Swift clearly help us win Thursday night and we have seen Scott help us win plenty of games just against the Giants alone. I count 4 "legit" NFL RBs on the roster. Are any of them "top 10" RBs in the NFL? I wouldn't make that claim just yet, but in 10-12 weeks we'll probably have a good idea. I have a feeling that Swift will  statistically be in the top 10 after the conclusion of week 2.

Am I supposed to be upset or worried? :crazy:

I don’t see these guys as top level performers, but Swift is by far the best of the bunch. No I don’t see Gainwell as special. I didn’t see Sanders as special either. Frankly neither did the Eagles, because if they did he would have been given a contract. Despite Penny having all of his injury issues the bigger issue to me is he just looks cooked. That’s why he’s RB4. Right now I just hope that a) they don’t just hand the keys back to Gainwell when he comes back and b) Swift stays healthy.

Watch other teams before you make uninformed commentary and bad takes. Captains blow up on the sidelines on occasion it's not unique to the Eagles. That fire often times is what makes them captains. They got that dawg in em and they want to make plays. So hike deez

Well the Maddox injury is as per tradition. The rest just look nicked up and not so serious.

Looking at your posts- never did like keyboard warriors. 🤣

I don’t know. They lost two special teams guys to IR prior to the season starting and Dean for at least 4 games. We are only two games in. Also Quez Watkins has a bum hamstring and that is a lingering type injury that could affect him all year. This a team with 4 wide receivers and one of them can’t run. The one who can’t run only does running fast well.

You care so much you've ranted for multiple posts, then said others are keyboard warriors. You're blowing it way out of proportion. Lots of players get passionate on the sidelines. Mahomes, Brady, Manning, Kelce, especially WR divas who want the ball.

If the coaches or other players have a problem with it they'll handle it.
