December 4, 20231 yr Jalen Hurts had a really bad game yesterday. He created a 15 yard sack in the Red zone. He looked indecisive all day. He held the ball for hours. He ran around like he had no answer for the SF defense. It's been a tough season for Jalen. The team has won a lot of games in spite of a lot of poor decisions and questionable play from Hurts. I still think the offensive struggles have more to do with game plans and playcalling than it has to do with the players. But Jalen needs to improve in some areas for sure. The defense is poorly coached too. We need better coordinators on both sides of the ball. There is no creativity, no strategy, no cohesion, no quick plays, almost zero run game every week. It's a total ISH show to be honest. 10 and 2 has everything to do with the talent and heart on this football team. Our coaching staff is failing weekly to improve, make adjustments, or implement any creativity or originality into the game plans on a weekly basis. It's not all on Jalen. But yesterday Jalen made some key mistakes for sure.

Hurts' development seems to have stagnated and Brian Johnson is in no position to fix it.

But yesterday Jalen made some key mistakes for sure. Jalen threw for 298 yards, 1 TD, 1 rushing TD and no INT or fumbles. Brown had 8 receptions for 114 yards, Smith had 9 receptions for 96 yards and a TD. Even Quez got involved with 3 receptions for 28 yards. Meanwhile, Swift had only 6 carries for 13 yards, and 2 receptions for 7 yards. Gainwell 2 carries for 5 yards and Scott 1 carry for 2 yards. Hurts didn't have "a really bad game." There was no run game, the play calling was basic and stale as it has been a lot lately. The red zone offense reverted where they settled for field goals early. And the defense gave up 42 points. Amazing when the defense gives up 6 straight TD drives, wide open receivers all day, and gives up that many points that fans will blame Jalen who had almost 300 yards passing, no turnovers and accounted for their only 2 TDs. Coaching including Siri, play calling, defensive scheme, having virtually no LBs, an aging secondary who has been exposed all year are all key problems.

All of this there were also at least 3 seperate occasions where Ambry Thomas got there blatantly early on a long ball and Greg Olsen watched the replay and called it 'good tight coverage', I can guarantee at least 2 would've been called PI if it had been in any other game I've seen this year. I've even heard Olsen himself call less contact "maybe the Eagles got away with one there" We got our asses kicked, but it might have been an interesting game had a couple of those drive stallers been called (and the line judge hadn't spotted Sweat's middle finger projecting 0.01 of an inch into the neutral zone on that third down).

He's was the leading candidate for MVP and it has been a tough season for Jalen. I don't think it's his fault. I think the Offensive Coordinator is in over his head and that is very apparent in the way the offense is playing. That includes Jalen. There is no way this offense became this one dimensional and predictable because of the players. The plays suck, the philosophy if there is one sucks, they don't run the ball, the rpo is basically gone, the pass plays take decades to develop. I mean the list goes on. If you read the whole post I clearly point that out. Yes at 10 and 2 the Eagles have some serious issues.
December 4, 20231 yr Hurts is 9th in the league in Total QBR (61.3) and 12 in passer rating (93.8). He was 4th in both categories last year (68.3 and 101.5) so to suggest that he hasn’t regressed season over season, is nonsense. Is he much different than the scouting report coming out of Oklahoma? Strengths: Tough CHECK Takes hits and doesn’t get hurt CHECK Durable CHECK Winner CHECK Weaknesses: Very limited passer IMPROVED Struggles to see the field CHECK Poor vision IMPROVED Struggles to read defenses CHECK Slow to work through progressions CHECK Not an accurate passer STREAKY One-read quarterback CHECK Arm strength is average CHECK Personality issues NOT WITH EAGLES. (OU staff were happy to see him gone, but seems to be an ideal teammate and natural leader with Philly)

I don't agree on all of it, but it's not entirely negative and it's fair.

I was responding to guys saying he played terrible and seemed to blame him for the loss. Hurts would have had to have the game of his life to outscore the 49ers the way the defense gave it up like a high school prom date.
December 4, 20231 yr Hurts is not the issue on this team. He didn't have a bad game either. It's hard to do anything when the defense gives up 6 straight TD drives. For all of the slobbing Brock Purdy gets, it was his teammates making the big plays. He isnt the MVP and it's easy to look good when CMC runs all over a defense, Deebo punks tacklers for big gains, and slow a** Kittle is running for big plays after a short completion. Put Brock on this team and I'm certain we are barely fighting for a wild card spot.

Hurts certainly wasn’t terrible. This does come down to the question that I, as an Eagles fan, am wrestling with. Did we pay Hurts elite QB money (yes) for sub elite play? It would have been nice to re-sign TJ Edwards and Kazir White for example but the cap space wasn’t there. Are they elite linebackers? No. But IMO they are upgrades over Ellis and Morrow. Dean was obviously a miss, and he benefited from the UGA talent in the line. A cap number of this magnitude on a QB that had one one good season hampers the roster. 49ers have the ability to load their roster with a cheap cap figure attached to the QB.

Getting utterly dominated with no answers on either side of the ball at home to a team that we will most likely have to get through in the playoffs is another. It’s a reality check.
