15 picks and 9 fumbles in 2023 for Hurts.  $23MM signing bonus in 2023 and $179MM guaranteed.  We all hope that he plays up to his contract in 2024 and beyond.  Hopefully this good week in camp bodes well, but it’s hardly any reason to flame the OP for calling it the way he sees it.  That’s a whole lot of money in 2023 and, coincidentally, a lot of regression at the same time.

The premise of this topic is that Jalen "quit" after he got paid. The OP should get flamed. Jalen may have had more turnovers last season (BTW, 5 of those fumbles were turnovers, not all 9) and that affected his passer rating, but the so-called "regression" wasn't as big as people want to pretend it was. At no time did Hurts quit trying last season. Can you  show me evidence that this topic's premise is on point, that Jalen did in fact quit trying, caring, competing after signing the contract? He practiced and played through half the season with the knee bruise and came right back into the season finale after dislocating his finger.

Things didn't go as smoothly for Hurts in 2023 as they did in 2024, but that's not a huge shock for a young QB. Most Eagles fans could see that the offense failed to add any new elements last season and that arguably gave defenses somewhat of a break. The schedule was supposedly one of the tougher ones and when you base it on how many teams played us on long rest, it seemed to favor the opponents as well.

We all want to see Jalen show growth as a QB and clean up the mistakes as well. But at no time last year did I ever question his heart and desire to win.

Why question his heart? It's his lack of talent that is the problem.

He needs to play better to prove it ain't a problem.

Please go check his stats for last year's playoff game versus Tampa Bay. He was horrible.

That's not what this stupid thread is about.

Hurts can't read a defense... one read and take off running

You are correct.

How dare I mention the lack of Hurts' performance as a QB?

For now, Hurts is stealing money until he proves otherwise.

He should have never been paid all this money.

Howie made a major mistake.

So far all the reports out of camp have been that Jalen has been outstanding at camp. Perhaps getting Sirianni out of the way combined with Jalen not being flushed with all of the distractions after the SB and the contract has got him focused again.

Elliot keeps droning on and on about this training camp interception streak as if he is on Jalen’s payroll AND as if it’s an actual stat.  I remember when Sam Bradford was lights out in TC and was going to be the next Tom Brady in Chimp’s kawledge offense.  I hope it translates to the season, and if it does, then Jalen isn’t stealing money anymore.

Well if it were only ESP going on and on about Hurts perhaps you would have a valid point, but it’s be everyone whose been out there. Funny thing is last season ESP was saying Hurts wasn’t very good in camp, and despite that they still won 11 games. Imagine if Hurts was actually playing well what they could have accomplished. With that being the case there’s been a litany of Eagles quarterbacks who have accomplished far less than Hurts has at the same point in their careers as Hurts has. Some of y’all were out here crying for a quitter to come back after a trash season too, but to each his own.

I mean, he was worse in basically every statistical category. Interesting statement.

I suspect with an actual game plan he should be better this season, but let's call a spade a spade.

My point isn’t invalid because people are reporting about his heroics at camp.  That IS my point.  It’s training camp!  Some of you are so desperate for Jalen’s nuts.

I say that because to me, the difference between Hurts in 2022 and 2023 was one more bad play per game.

If you take a look at the advanced stats:

  Games Passing
Year Age Tm Pos No. G GS Cmp Att Yds Bats ThAwy Spikes Drops Drop% BadTh Bad% OnTgt OnTgt%
2020 22 PHI QB 2 15 4 77 148 1061 5 12 1 4 3.0% 36 26.7% 82 60.7%
2021 23 PHI QB 1 15 15 265 432 3144 11 22 2 22 5.4% 57 14.0% 319 78.2%
2022* 24 PHI QB 1 15 15 306 460 3701 13 23 0 22 5.0% 62 14.2% 340 77.8%
2023* 25 PHI QB 1 17 17 352 538 3858 14 35 0 19 3.8% 72 14.3% 397 78.9

His bad throw percentage and on target percentage were nearly identical in those 2 seasons. There were more attempts though and a higher number of "bad throws."

It's absolutely fair to debate whether he regressed or played injured while confined to a simplistic scheme. It's fair to wonder if Howie extended him too soon. Or to wonder if the camp hype will evaporate as soon as the blitzing packages are unleashed week one.

I have no problem having any of those debates.

Agreeing with BRKMSN, the title of this stupid thread implies that the issue is a lack of football character on the part of Hurts. That's simply not on the table.

I am going to wait for the games to get excited or discouraged for either side of the ball.  The offense has all the talent in the world and is literally built to beat the defense that Vic runs. We should be happy that Hurts is executing it as designed. The entire league doesn't run this defense and doesn't have such poor pass rush and linebacker player either. I think Hurts will have another good, but not great year that leads to one of these great off-season debates that we've all grown custom to lol

I believe that having a real OC will change many things in Jalen's favor this season.

My point is a lot of people other than just ESP is saying Hurts is doing well, so to assume he’s going to suck, because that bum Sam Bradford did is ridiculous especially considering Jalen has shown he can improve. How about you wait and see before you foolishly assume you’re correct.

Certainly way too soon to predict anything, but the Eagles offense doing better in practice is a good sign. The same people wanting to temper attitudes today were telling us Kenny Pickett would be the answer after Jalen struggled during minicamps.

I didn’t predict his future performance. Pointed out that crowning him in training camp is foolish (see Exhibit A: Sam Bradford).   How about YOU wait and see before you foolishly translate training camp heroics into a Lombardi trophy.

I'd rather see the fan base fired up at this point. We have all season to pick the team apart and question every snap. We have damn near nothing on film yet and just fluff stuff so enjoy the fluff and hope everyone stays healthy

There’s been a lot of guys getting some props right now and so far it seems like they’re getting it together much sooner than I thought they would. Haven’t played a game yet we know, but with all these changes I expected them to come in sloppy and so far they haven’t.
