Good heads up play by Jalen to locate it, pick it up, get outside the pocket and throw it away. I'm not going to sit here and pretend QBs never turn the ball over. They do. Even the best ones do. But we just want the frequency to be less.
October 24, 2024Oct 24 Jalen deserves better on these boards. i have a couple of concerns, mostly with his ability to process the defense quickly enough and find the open man. But: 1) I don’t see turnovers as a long term issue. He was unlucky last year and his TWP % was actually really low. He made some bad decisions the start of this season but appears to have cleaned them up. Turnovers weren’t an issue for him prior to last year. 2) Let’s not forget he was second team all pro in 2022 and played an incredible game in the Super Bowl. Last year he was the clear MVP favourite after the first 12 weeks. He went bad after that but so did the rest of the team. 3) his accuracy and deep ball have improved so much 4) He is still a threat with his legs and almost automatic on short yardage.

This team wins when we run the ball and Hurts is relegated to a game manager. Without AJ Brown, Smitty, one the best O Line (if not the best), and especially Barkley...Jalen is a JAG. $250MM for a JAG. What would an elite QB do in this offense? We will never know. As for the Super Bowl, remind me again, who had the boneheaded fumble for a TD that was the difference in the game? FTR - Love your passion from across the pond. Just because he doesn't always lose the fumble doesn't mean it has not been happening throughout his career.

You and @UK_EaglesFan89 are true fans. First of all appreciate it on the passion point! But there is no way Jalen is just a JAG or we are better with him as a game manager. That was true last week. It hasn’t been true the last few years. Just go back and watch the wins from last year before the collapse or 2022. Or even look at the box score if you don’t have time. Hurts was beating teams with his arms and his legs and with a pretty terrible D (last year at least). He didn’t have Barkley then. And come on - he was awesome in the Super Bowl. That’s like blaming the D cause they gave up a TD in a 7-3 loss
October 24, 2024Oct 24 Jalen´s Super Bowl performance was one for the ages, despite the final outcome. He was historically good. I agree he gets a lot of grief on here, he´s a lightning rod (in the same way as Sirianni). He´s not perfect but he´s no scrub. I don´t think I could pick ten better QBs in front of him, which makes him top ten (for those at the back not paying attention). He´s not Patrick Mahomes but he´s not some Jay Cutler type either. I get he has a lot of talent around him, and we saw how they struggled without Brown and Smitty (and Philly G) but who wouldn´t struggle when losing guys of that quality? He´s making better decisions the last couple of games with no turnovers. If you´re going to bash him when he plays badly, at least be fair and give him his props when they are due

Pretty much no QB can do it without help in any event. I think everyone agrees that Mahomes is the best in the league but he’s been mediocre this year without Rice and with Kelce declining.

For me personally until you have a few years showing you are that dude, you are proving it still. Howie wants to get ahead to save 3 million a year lol He did the same mistake with Wentz but that's his whole thing. He gets the better deal at the risk of giving out a big contract early instead of waiting. Some like to call it being a cap wizard It screwed us with Wentz. It's in the beginning stage of looking like it's screwing us with Hurts too

I wonder if people recall Jalen’s first year with Steichen? Much of the same stuff. We ran the ball to win games. It was his second season where he blew up. Whatever happens the Eagles need to find a consistency with the OC and the quarterback as long as Jalen is the quarterback here. The one and only time since he’s been here that he had consecutive seasons with the same OC they got to the SB and he was an MVP candidate. Can’t drop Moore now.

" They are just total fumbles and that "9" is right about the league average. It's not some abnormally high number. Keep in mind that bad snaps go on the QB's stats (as fumbles) as do handoff mishaps. 3 of Hurts' 5 fumbles this year have been on snaps. At least two of those were Cam's fault. I'm not sure who was at fault on the tush-push one. The last fumble on Hurts' stats this season was a high snap that he was able to pick up and throw harmlessly away. It was a terrible snap, and a good play by Jalen, but people still want to act like he did something wrong to get that fumble on his stat sheet.

It’s why having your HC be the offense guy is such a good way to operate. Unfortunately we have Sirianni so no chance there.

October 25, 2024Oct 25 Hurts played very well in 2022 and had his best game as a pro on the biggest stage. Since then, he's been mediocre, plain and simple. His biggest flaw is processing. He's just bad at it, he's slow with his reads and decisions. He doesn't see the field and be able to process what the defense is doing and where to go with the ball...quickly. That's why it's always Brown/Smith/Goedert. If the play is called for Brown being the primary target, Hurts is either throwing to him or if the throw isn't there, he just starts running. He rarely ever progresses to the next target or sees another player who is wide open. For quite a while now I've been wondering if the problems on offense have been due to Sirianni or Hurts. At first I thought it was 100% Sirianni, nowadays I'm starting to believe it has more to do with what Hurts can and can't do. The play designs in our offense are mostly basic/bland stuff...is that just poor coaching/planning/design or is it designed that way because the coaches know what Hurts can and can't do so they have to limit the designs and calls?
October 25, 2024Oct 25 An interesting Hurts assessment. "The passing game, meanwhile, is still searching for its footing. Jalen Hurts’ completion rate of 67.8% is four points higher than his career average and he is top-5 in QBR (72), completion percentage (75%) and off-target rate (9%) while operating inside the pocket. But he’s throwing outside the pocket on 18% of his attempts — the second-highest rate behind the Steelers’ Justin Fields — and his numbers dip dramatically (16 QBR, 41% completion rate, off-target rate of 24%) in those instances." The obvious answer is more quick throws. Will they incorporate this? I don't know. I do know that the offense has evolved a lot this year. More plays under center and from the pistol against the Giants. The use of VanSumeren as a fullback. Hurts has been good at running rpos, so maybe that is the answer. We will see what they decide to do this week.

It is strange that they bring in someone like Moore because, as they kept saying, the offense was stale and they needed to implement new ideas ... and yet the offense still looks the same. I do wonder if they started another QB (say Hurts has to miss time due to injury and they started McKee) ... would the offense look different (better)?
October 25, 2024Oct 25 My concern with Hurts is that he holds onto the ball too long. His decision making process takes too long. The home run play is a low percentage play. Eagles have been lucky to have AJ. Hurts has to hit his check down guy or decide to run quicker.

Hurts throws a great deep ball and Brown excels at catching deep balls, so your analysis is that we shouldn't do that?
