February 11Feb 11 Jalen Hurt's situation starting to remind me a bit of Troy Aikman. Troy had an amazing Oline, Emmitt, Irvin, Harper & Novachek.. Jalen has a great Oline, Barkley, Devonte, A.J & Goedert. Jalen's deep balls although look a little like Warren Moon's 😇 This year's Eagles team vs that 90's Superbowl winning Cowboys team that Aikman played in, would make one hell of a game...

February 11Feb 11 The Aikman comparison is a cop out. Every SB winning QB in NFL history is surrounded by amazing talented players and coaches Peyton Manning had an all star team for 10 years and joined another one later He started his career with Faulk and Harrison. He swapped Faulk for Edge and added Reggie Wayne. He mostly soiled himself with 1 and dones and pathetic SB play. He lost a SB with a pick 6. He's got like 6 SB TD passes, 4 to his team and 2 to the other team.

I mean I know it is for a newspaper that probably nobody reads but he should be unemployed When people talk about "QB" they don't always understand that QB is a position, not a style. Are there more prolific passers in the NFL today? Absolutely. Most teams' offensive schemes are built mainly on passing and as such they put up a higher volume of passing stats. But that's not the only thing a QB does. Even high volume passers have to hand the ball off and occasionally use their feet to make / extend plays or QB sneak, etc... When you look back on college history, there used to always be teams that ran wishbone or power-I offenses and the main job of the QB was to read the defenders and decide whether to run himself or get the ball to a different ball carrier. That guy was still a QB and was still playing QB and sometimes they were serious Heisman contenders if they were great at playing QB in that system. That didn't mean they would go on to become successful QBs in the NFL. The truth is, they just didn't because being a great Wishbone QB was useless at the NFL level because that system was not effective at this level. QBs in the NFL also need to be effective passing the ball as well. We've seen the occasional guy have some limited success despite major passing deficiencies (Tebow). But college football has evolved a lot over the last 3 decades and the NFL is getting more QBs that can run and pass --- true dual threat QBs. Not every football fan prefers dual threat QB systems to conventional high volume pocket passing systems. So when they compare QBs, they tend to rank them in regard to their preferred system instead of how the QB performs within his own offense / system. So when you look at Hurts and compare him to Mahomes, Hurts was clearly the better QB Sunday. He also was the better "QB" for the season as a whole. I'm not going to argue against the notion that Mahomes is the better pure passer and can do more things with his arm. But I don't think anybody is going to argue that Mahomes is the better runner. So how did each player perform within his own offense? Jalen had the better year. So when they are using the term "QB," you just have to determine if they are talking about the position or purely the passing aspect of the position. It's easy to tell because they will usually scoff if you compare "total stats" instead of "passing stats."
February 11Feb 11 Jim Kelly had all star teams for about 8 years. He has 20 TDs and 28 picks in the playoffs. He is a punch line. Hurts is 5x the player that Kelly was. Elway had 8 other pro bowl players on offense for his back to back SBs Marino was drafted to a team that was in the SB the year before.

February 11Feb 11 Young was a classic underachieving QB. Hurts has already surpassed Young,Rodgers, Marino, etc by getting to 2 and winning 1 He is 26
February 11Feb 11 Rodgers went 1 and done with a 15 and 1 record. His backup had 6 TDs in the previous packers game
February 11Feb 11 Honestly, it's not even worth engaging with Hurts haters, or anyone being overly critical. You'd think a SB win and SB MVP would silence the rhetoric, but I guess some people just can't help themselves lol

There are not many coaches or quarterbacks in this league who don’t win without talent. No I don’t think any of these current guys who everyone fawns over could come in here and win with this group. The only one I would say is Mahomes, but the rest of those guys no.

The ‘84 Dolphins surrendered 2155 yards on the ground that season. If Marino had a defense in Miami before injuries took their toll on him, he probably could have had at least 2-3 rings. Marino was drafted 27th overall by the Dolphins. Eagles drafted RB Michael Haddix 8th overall that year. I remember my old man losing his mind when we passed on Marino and drafted Haddix. He was apoplectic the next year when Marino set record after record and the Dolphins were in the Super Bowl.
February 11Feb 11 The comparisons to other QBs that have talent around them is appropriate. There are QBs that don't win and they say if he just had talent around him. Jalen wins and they say but he could have more passing yards since he has good WRs. You have all these elite QBs that had amazing talent around them. Fans don't take anything away from those QBs because they had talent. Hurts isn't going to be a big time passer. His running is a huge part of his game. It's a formula they went with this year. Analysts this season were pointing out that other teams are doing that too, throwing less. Harbaugh said in SB media week that he had Justin Herbert throw less. QB numbers overall are down. Wins are better than any individual stats.
February 11Feb 11 The poor baby! talent and coaches and D around him and competition in division etc, etc, only leads to 1 answer Randall Cunningham is the GoaT garbage O-line (1985 Eagles, 1986 Eagles, or 2002 Texans is the worst line of all-time and the others are #2 and #3) garbage offensive coaches pathetic 2.9 to 3.3 ypc type running game he was taught how to play in the NFL by only getting to play on 3rd and long beatings leaky D with some great players outside of 1991 when he was hurt MVP type seasons 3x anyway He earns a trip to the SB on the field and an idiot kicker steals it away with an ultra-shank SEVEN SB winners in his division while he was an Eagle No one wants to call Randall the GoaT so all of it is invalid.

Randall will always be my favorite Eagles quarterback. The late 80s-early 90s Eagles with Buddy are still may favorite. Unfortunately they didn’t win.
February 11Feb 11 Aikman to Hurts is a garbage comparison. Aikman did nothing in the run game. They have similar not top 5 pass numbers but then you have to add in 600 yards rushing and 12 rush TDs for Hurts. Carmelo Anthony is Charles Barkley if you pretend rebounds are not a thing.

(Fumbles include bad snaps that hit the ground) For Context Josh Allen averages about 10 fumbles a year and he has 12 fumbles in 13 playoff games Lamar averages about 10 a year and has 7 fumbles in 8 playoff games. Hurts has almost identical regular season fumble numbers but only 4 in 9 playoff games. Rayne D Prescott averages 8 fumbles a year but its a weird lead the league or only 4 variance Dak does not run much in the playoffs and only has 1 fumble. Picks are his thing with at least 1 in 5 of 7 playoff games.
February 12Feb 12 It's funny watching all the media guys that have been trashing him for the last two months pretend that they didn't
