We all wanted him to protect the ball better than he did in the 1st 4 weeks, but only the real pessimists were in the prediction thread calling, "Jalen with 2 more turnovers," acting like that was the normal expectation. There are always going to be streaks of really good and not so good in a player's career. People were overreacting to September performances. I understand that people were lumping those in with 2023's mistakes, but that season was in the books. The whole team was off late in 2023. There were important lessons to learn from that and opportunity for growth --- which we saw this season. There's a difference between "wanting better" and "expecting worse." I think you fell into the former as opposed to the latter.

Like how people are already scared of next seasons schedule, those teams or even ours wont be the same next year
February 13Feb 13 Listening to Wip is so painfull, I tried a few times this week but it is so obvious some hosts absolutely hate Hurts, Eskin, fritz, Tom Kelly who is the biggest hater, how does this crap get ratings
February 13Feb 13 How a moron on the radio speaks: "Embiid never gets them to the conference finals so he is not great..." (on repeat) Hurts gets his team to 2 SBs and is the best offensive player on the field in both games. "Yeah, I'm going to change the rules here. Hurts is not elite"
February 13Feb 13 This is not the 1960s with Wilt. Jalen is not going to lead the league in assists to prove it to the newspaper idiots. Jalen played like 4 snaps vs DC in the rematch. How dare he get concussed? Jalen did not play vs horrible Dallas and NY in the last 2. (would 760 yards passing in those 2 games make him elite?) Jalen did not play in the 4th vs Dallas in a blowout. Jalen did not play after 11:42 of the 4th vs the Giants. (now famous backups conversation with Siri and Saquon game) OMG! his passing stats accumulation does not appease me! There are stats to see how efficient you are as a passer so it doesn't matter if you miss a game or do so well you don't play in the 4th. Hurts was 4th in yards per attempt. Mahomes was 27th (between Fields and Maye) Hurts was 5th in passer rating. Mahomes was 17th (Justin Fields says Hi! again) Hurts was 8th in interception %. Mahomes was 18th (A-A-Ron says hello) Hurts was 11th in TD%. Mahomes was 17th (Drake Maye again) Hurts was 8th in completion %. Mahomes was 10th Now we add in the rushing dominance in yards, TDs, and the devastating effect he has on the backside LBs screwed into the ground. Its not really a question of Jalen being elite. (he obviously is) Its a question of your basic comprehension skills.
February 13Feb 13 Hurts is without a doubt an elite QB. That doesn’t make him perfect and he is 26. He has the right mindset to keep improving and I expect him too. He had a lot more on his plate this year with kelce retiring and Hurts having to pick up all the protection calls. That is even more offensive understanding and command. He will improve more there next year. He throws a great deep ball. He throws a great deep out and back shoulder throw. He is good in the pocket and knows how to use his legs. Next year I’d like to see him focus on the quick game and use the coaches to advance the offense that way. If they weave in the quick game as a thing they can lean on like the deeper passing and run game the offense will go to the next level. i am sure he knows that and sees it. Look at his comments after the NFC championship game with the straight jacket joke. It’s going to evolve and improve every year. I’m stoked to see it.

I said to my buddy @EaglesAddict on Sunday that there’s a player Hurts reminds me of (by the way I know others have said this too so I’m not trying to steal it as an original thought). When I said it I think EaglesAddict thought I was crazy but when I gave my reasoning I think he came round to it a little. Brady is the player. Now I’m not saying he’s going to be as good or he’s going to win multiple SB’s (though this team has a chance). But I do think there are similarities. Jalen lives and breathes football. It embodies who he is and he’s always looking to improve. He also doesn’t have the best arm nor is he the best QB athlete (though he’s a very good athlete and certainly better than Brady in that respect). But he works so hard and is so focused that he’s going to get better. He’s going to get better at reading defenses the more experience he gets. Brady was also massively helped early in his career by his defense and I think we can all agree that’s true of Hurts this year. Though to give Hurts huge credit he was phenomenal in the NFCCG and Super Bowl.

I think Hurts has a ways to go to catch up to Brady's level in regards to the cerebral part of the game...though he does seem to be making progress in that area! Hopefully he continues progressing in that area because he'll need it once his physical abilities start to decline. Sometimes (maybe many times), an athletic QB's cerebral progression is actually hampered by their physical ability in that they rely too much on the athleticism...which gives them a somewhat false sense of security that they're "good enough" in the mental part because they're really good at the physical part. If that makes sense. Players like Vick and Cam Newton are good examples of this. If they don't develop the mental processing part of playing QB, their career will take a significant decline once their physical ability starts declining. Vick rebounded a little bit late in his career once he realized this. I think Hurts has the awareness and proper attitude to keep getting better in this area that will hopefully serve him well once he can't run as good anymore.

And I feel the same way. I think Hurts has the smarts and the drive to want to get better in that area. I think this year he showed tremendous growth in his ability to read a defense and change plays and so that gives me real hope he can continue to develop. But of course it’s what we think and time will tell.

Jalen Hurts shares these elite traits with Tom Brady: Drive Dedication / work ethic Competitiveness Many people forget that Jalen sought out Peyton Manning as a mentor for years and then had a chance to work out with Tom Brady a couple years ago in the off season. Neither guy is the same style of QB Jalen is, but Jalen is trying to absorb whatever he can apply to his game from two of the best that shared his elite traits I listed. If you really think about it, Jalen's path might more resemble that of Jason Kelce's success in may ways. So many fans doubted Kelce his first few seasons as a starter and were calling him a liability that had reached his "ceiling" after his 5th season. They said we needed to draft a replacement. They said 2014 was the outlier and his liabilities were being masked in Chip's offense. They said he was just a guy, was undersized, wouldn't be able to hold up in any other system. They were wrong.

Yeah I can’t disagree with any of that. I do think he’s got that work rate and drive to keep doing what he can to improve. Brady was never the most gifted QB but he worked tirelessly to improve the areas of his game that were within his control and he maximised what he had.

Jalen made so many winning plays and key first downs in this game. Hard to not give him the MVP at that point. Yeah....I mean the defense was able to unload on a one dimensional offense for much of the game, because Jalen kept making plays, he limited mistakes, and he put up points on the board.
February 13Feb 13 These comparisons for Hurts are interesting. So much so, that I will throw one out there. Hear me out... Randall Cunningham. He doesn't have the pure arm of Randall, but he is just as elusive and dangerous on the ground. He reads the game quicker. He's ironing out the hero tendency that prime Randall had. I accept this might be post-championship euphoria, but what I think we are seeing in Jalen is the player Randall could have been.
February 13Feb 13 From the mic'd up from NFL Films. Winning 40-6, Hurts was all business on the sideline. Calcaterra said to him you can smile. Hurts said "I can't lie to you bro, that last one changed my soul man. It did. It ain't never over, til the fat lady sing, you know." This was Hurts, up 40-6 with the game surely won: This man, this team, are not going to get overconfident this offseason. They are going to come back hungry next year. Smitty already said back to work tomorrow on his IG, AJ said he's not satisfied. They are still hunting.

I do think there is a small chance AJ gets traded this year though. His IG post suggested he wants to be the dominant factor and that’s what drives him.
February 14Feb 14 AJ had a 1410 and 9 season this year if he played all 17. He got hurt. If Nick wants to promise him he can play in 4th quarter garbage time with McKee so he can get 1700 and 12... go for it.

Nope I’m just merely suggesting it could be interpreted that way. Who knows if he meant it in a cryptic way or not. I just think moves will need to be made and it could be one move they make if it helps them to acquire someone like Garrett.
