In any case I just hope the Eagles know what they’re doing. Seems like they’re playing a dangerous game with the protection of a QB that has a long injury history.

QB's are going to get sacked whoever is at LT, especially if they stand still as long as Carson did at times last year, lots of QB's spend the odd season behind iffy lines and survive, Deshaun Watson has been sacked just 5 times less than Wentz in over a seasons worth less games, Wilson, Rodgers and Roethlisberger have all racked up multiple 40+ sack seasons, if Carson is so fragile he can't stand up to a season without an all pro left tackle, that raises bigger questions for the team and FO than their handling of O-Line succession.

Not for nothing, but I read JP only gave up 3 sacks last season, and if Carson is constantly getting blasted from his blindside because his LT can’t hold blocks it could lead to a lot of issues and magnify them. Carson’s fumble problem and his injury problems both could manifest themselves. Carson’s injury issues have always been a risk. When they drafted him he already had injury issues. The best thing you can do for a guy like that is protect him. They’re basically leaving it to chance over a few million dollars.

I'll be completely shocked if JP isn't our starting LT next Sunday.  I don't think there is any rush to move him over now ... have to give others a good look there to see who should be penciled in as #2 on DC.  With JP's recent injury history, it's imperative they have someone else ready to step in as needed (for the reasons you stated).  If none of the others on the roster look up to the task, then they know they need to watch the waiver wire for an outside option.

This team has been a little spoiled at LT. It basically hasn’t been an issue for this team since 98. I hope we figure it out, because I dont think people realize how bad this could get.

They better hope Dillard is the real deal.  He may never be on the same level of JP (then again, JP will go down as an all time great at the position, so it is unrealistic to think Dillard or anyone will ever achieve that), but he at least better be damn good.  Otherwise it is another wasted high pick and the search continues for JP's successor.

I wonder if the waiver wire is the game Howie is playing. Even if Peters does switch positions, he's going up against a very good D Line next week. How can anyone be sure he'll make it to the 4th quarter uninjured? They need a good plan B at LT. Peters is no longer an ironman.

How does this reduce Peters leverage? The Eagles just lost a viable option and Reiff is making 3 mill more than him plus an option to get incentive pay. If anything it has giving Peters an edge to make more money.

He's 31. Peters is a lot older and has missed way more games. Plus, he lowered his contract to stay with the team.

Hopefully Peters and his camp realize that if Reilly is getting paid $6 million this season, no one is paying him more than $3 million even at LT.

Yeah it does appear that way but hey they know what they are doing better than us.

The last two seasons they have played the same amount of games and according to this Reiff isn’t even consider top 20 LT coming into the season while Peters is.

According to PFF Peters allowed 3 sacks last year while Reiff allowed 5. He’s younger, but he’s not the better player.

Financially Peters would be getting a ridiculously low number to play LT in the league. He would be in the low 30s. I don’t blame him for asking for more money.

Well I wish they knew a better way to keep their prized QB healthy, because it seems like they’re doing a horrible job trying to.

What's really F'ed up is that Jason is within his right to request a raise. But, he risked money over (in many people's eyes) the love of the city. The way this was handled is poor on his part. He's coming off as greedy, espcially at the end of his career. It changes the perception of how we see him. As a Man/Player.

Why is he within his rights? So players can't be asked to move around? When he returned to Philly he surely knew there was a chance, big or small, that he'd play LT at some point during the year?

Honestly UK has a point. Players get changed from different positions and you never hear about raises. Generally the team has always taken care of their own. We have taken care of Peters for a long time. 2009? Honestly if he is doing this just for a few extra million that is pretty low blow to the nuts of the organization that paid him very well over 11 years.

I respected all he did for us and will go down as one of the greats but this little ..hiccup towards the end of your tenure with the eagles will leave a sour taste in my mouth instead of warm feelings.

Doug just announced he will be playing LT.

But the people want to know if Eagles had to pay him more to move over:ph34r:

if so he deserved it, doesn't even matter.

He doesn't deserve it. He came back on the contract he came back on. Maybe this was all a none issue to start with... But if he did at first refuse to play LT unless he was paid more then that's absolutely not a good move.

it's a business.  LTs get paid more than RGs.

Good news for the team. I don't care if they paid him more money or not.

But players sometimes have to move around. JP should understand that being such a vet!

he's a first ballot HOFer, show some respect for that.

JP, is that you?

They'll still need someone to come in when Peters takes himself out and when he gets dinged up

The business side of football shouldn't surprise us. JP gave the Eagles a chance to evaluate other teammates, try out an experienced FA, and still made the "expected" announcement to his coach a week before week 1 so the team can prepare properly for that game.

The exact  reason why they have been playing others there all camp in case that happens.  Instead the morons on here kept crying  that Howie was forcing them to find someone else cause they didn't want to pay Peter's and they are playing games with Wentzs protection 😥
